JOHN’S 1 2020-21 GEORGETOWN MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN THE 2020-21 HOYAS GEORGETOWN’S 58-REBOUND PERFORMANCE AGAINST UMBC WAS THE PROGRAM’S MOST IN NEARLY 20 YEARS WHEN THEY PULLED DOWN 59 BOARDS VS. GRAMBLING STATE (12/09/2000) AT MCDONOUGH ARENA. WITH GU’S PERFORMANCE AGAINST COPPIN STATE, THE HOYAS HAVE NOW SURPASSED 50 REBOUNDS NINE TIMES UNDER HEAD COACH PATRICK EWING AND HAD SIX GAMES WITH A REBOUNDING MARGIN OF AT LEAST +20. QUDUS WAHAB JUST MISSED OUT ON A TRIPLE-DOUBLE AGAINST ST. JOHN’S ON DECEMBER 13, FINISHING WITH A LINE OF 17 POINTS, 10 REBOUNDS AND NINE BLOCKS. THE NINE REJECTIONS WERE THE MOST BY A HOYA SINCE ALONZO MOURNING’S NINE BLOCKS AGAINST DELAWARE STATE ON DECEMBER 9, 1991. THE HOYAS HAVE BEEN HOT FROM DOWNTOWN THIS SEASON, RANKING THIRD IN THE BIG EAST WITH 9.3 3-POINTER/GAME. AS A TEAM, GU HAS MADE 10 OR MORE TREYS IN FOUR GAMES THIS SEASON, WHICH IS ALREADY MORE THAN ALL OF LAST SEASON. SENIOR JAHVON BLAIR HAS MADE A TEAM-HIGH 17 3-POINTERS ON THE SEASON AND IS CURRENTLY EIGHTH ON GU’S CAREER 3-POINTERS LIST WITH 161. CLASSMATE JAMORKO PICKETT IS SECOND ON THE TEAM WITH 13 3-POINTERS AND IS 12TH ALL-TIME AT GEORGETOWN WITH 146 CAREER TREYS. SUNDAY’S MATCHUP BETWEEN GEORGETOWN AND ST. THE SQUADS MET TWICE LAST REGULAR SEASON IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY, BOTH GU VICTORIES, AND ONCE IN THE BIG EAST TOURNAMENT IN MARCH. THE HOYAS HAVE NEVER PLAYED A CONFERENCE OPPONENT FIVE TIMES IN A YEAR, AND HAVE ONLY TWICE PLAYED A BIG EAST OPPONENT FOUR TIMES (ST. JOHNS - 1985; PROVIDENCE - 1987). GEORGETOWN’S 16-MAN ROSTER CONSISTS OF NINE NEWCOMERS WHO WERE NOT ON THE TEAM LAST SEASON. THE HOYAS HAVE SIX FRESHMEN AND THREE GRADUATE TRANSFERS.
