Josie Cordero Memorial Golf Tournament Program Presenting Sponsor Chad Cordero of the Seattle Mariners and Family Chad Cordero, the grandson of Josie Cordero, was born in Upland in 1982 and attended Don Lugo High School. He was JosieJosie CorderoCordero drafted by the Padres in 2000 but chose instead to attend college. MemorialMemorial GolfGolf TournamentTournament He was given a scholarship to Cal State Fullerton where he was Presented by Chad Cordero named as a 1st Team All- American Freshman Team and would of the Seattle Mariners lead his team to the College World Series. He was named as the Most Valuable Player at the Regionals. and Family In 2003 he was drafted in the first round and twentieth overall Benefiting by the Montreal Expos. In 2005 he tied the major league record for saves in one month with 15. He went on to break the The American Cancer Society franchise record for most saves in a season with 44. He completed the season with a major league leading total of 47 Monday saves. He was selected to the 2005 Major League Baseball All July 26, 2010 Star game. His honors include National League Rolaids Relief Man of the Year and 2005 Washington Nationals Player of the Year. Through 2006 he has gone on to become the second youngest person in baseball history to record 100 saves. Chad missed the second half of the 2008 season because of surgery for a torn labrum. He became a free agent at the end of 2008 and signed on with the Seattle Mariners. He currently is pitching relief for the Mariners.
