Plates highlighted by chefs Helen Li and Leo Lamprides of Chinese Laundry guided this specific DTLA Dinner Club evening. A puree of banter occurred over dishes that included Rice Skin Noodles with Shrimp Ceviche, Wuhan Sesame Noodles with Pork Belly and a Tofu Flower dessert that looked too picturesque to eat. Each dish is broken down by the special guest chef before serving, an intimate moment that truly connects the audience to the chef’s heart and soul. The city welcomes Josh back from an adventurous year spent in Bali. The simple, heartfelt comment that kicked off the evening came from Rania, a friend of Josh’s for over fourteen years. Aravindh, Ph.D. Scholar ======================================================================= This paper describes some of the healthcare needs of transgender people before hormone replacement therapy. Gender identity is one of the most important concerns of human psychology. Sexual identity causes big humiliation for transgenders. They need steady help and support from the health care centers. The situation still gets worst when they do not get sufficient support from their own kin, as well as society. “In a survey, 28 percent of participants (transgender people) reported postponing medical care due to discrimination from their health care providers, while 19 percent reported being refused medical care completely” (Breeding Zachari). Lack of knowledge about the gender identity disorder and absence of defined conventions in the society may be the major attributes for this problem. Transgender people are already in a constant inner conflict between soul and body. This conflict with the society leads to hampered communications and miscellaneous relationships within family, friends and colleagues. Transgender people are often rejected by their parents, peers, and marginalised in the society. They are frequently not engaged in necessary mental and physical health care due to barriers arising from both their gender minority status and the barriers associated with homelessness. In order to improve transgender individuals’ health, a rightly dosage of food is must. It is important to understand the conditions for which this population is most at risk, the role of food during the hormone therapy.

The connections forged in this study--based on archival research from Joseph Blotner’s extensive biographical notes--reveal a version of Faulkner distinctly not anxious about homosexuality and, in fact, often quite comfortable with gay men and living in gay environments (New Orleans, New York). I've said before that I rarely look for heroes in the academy, primarily because I've found it to be a disappointing search. Something about careerism, or the sadomasochistic march to tenure, or both, makes it a disappointing search. But there are those rare moments when one meets someone whose work one has long admired, and one finds that the person is more generous, kinder, warmer, and more brilliant than one had even imagined. That's the way it was when I met Professor Delgado for the first time. I can say, unequivocally, that he is a hero of mine. I don't think there's a scholar of my generation writing about issues of inequality who is not in debt to Professor Delgado's amazingly prolific career-and I should add that it's absolutely fitting that Law & Inequality should host this gathering, since Richard has done as much as any scholar now living to contend with inequality.

    Queer Quarantine: Conceptualizing State and Dominant Cultural Responses to Queer Threats as Discursive Tactics and Technologies of Quarantine by Péter Balogh A Thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Canadian Studies Carleton University Ottawa, Ontario © 2015 Péter Balogh Abstract This study explores queer quarantine, my conceptualization of processes and practices aimed at assessing, diagnosing and isolating queer threats to the nation. In theorizing queer quarantine, I draw upon the longstanding conflation of queerness with disease and contagion, and build a case for reading the isolation, containment and casting out of queerness as an assemblage of discursive tactics and technologies aimed at quarantining queers beyond conventional understandings of quarantine. I examine the ways queers are imagined to threaten public space, healthy bodies, and the future of the nation, and provide a new accounting for so-called homophobic policies and practices deployed in statecraft and dominant culture. I also trace the emergence of the queer AIDS monster, an effect of disciplinary tactics of queer quarantine and a particular discursive formation in its own right. My study has two aims: building a case for queer quarantine and, at the same time, demonstrating how queer quarantine can be used as a new model of analysis to identify and explore some of the ways the Canadian state and dominant culture continue to marginalize and oppress queers despite the rights gains and “acceptance” that some gays and lesbians have achieved. My analysis reveals that in 1970s Toronto, the rapidly increasing visibility of queerness became a public threat necessitating tactical responses from local authorities and the police to quarantine queer spaces.

It consists of an introduction, four chapters, and a conclusion. The introduction provides a precise theoretical background for the study. It defines key terms making a detailed reference to the prevailing discourses in the Caribbean and the U.S. The first chapter reveals examples in the fiction of the complex relationship between shame and visibility/invisibility as embodied in the figure of the secret/closet, in relation to prevailing identity discourses. The second chapter analyzes the relationship of shame with narcissistic and masochistic tendencies as presented in the fiction, evaluating the weight of narratives in the dynamics of such disorders.
