The Swinton and Pendlebury Boy Scouts Association received a warrant under the name of the Swinton, Pendlebury, Clifton and District Local Association in 1919 and came within the area of the South East Lancashire County Scout Council when this was established in 1923. Before 1919 there had been the Pendlebury Division (a name altered to the Swinton, Pendlebury and District Division) of the Manchester and District Association of Boy Scouts. One Troop, the 1st. Swinton, in the Swinton, Pendlebury, Clifton and District Local Association was set up in 1908.
