The success of the students in Pascack Valley Regional High School’s HSPA Support program is largely dependent upon the collective efforts of the students, teachers and students. Because this support structure is funded through Title IA funds of the No Child Left Behind Act, the district must form a student –parent –school compact that outlines the responsibilities of each party. Each parent and student is encouraged to review this outline of shared responsibilities.

School Responsibilities: 1. Pascack Valley High School will provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables all children to meet New Jersey’s academic standards. Students identified as needing assistance will receive additional support through a HSPA support class that will specifically target the needs of the individual students in the class. 2. Pascack Valley High School will hold an annual parent –school meeting to educate parents on techniques that they can use to better support their children as they prepare to take the appropriate New Jersey Performance Assessments. 3. Pascack Valley High School will communicate with parents throughout the year regarding the student’s academic progress. 4. Pascack Valley High School will allow parents to be active participants in the school building. With permission of the principal, parents may volunteer to participate in school activities and observe their child’s classroom activities.

Parent Responsibilities: 1. Parents / Guardians of students in HSPA Support will do what is necessary to get their children to school on time and help them be prepared to learn. 2. Parents / Guardians of students in HSPA Support will monitor their children to ensure that homework conducted in an appropriate environment and is completed by the date issued by the teacher. 3. Parents / Guardians of students in HSPA Support will participate in decisions related to their child’s education. 4. Parents / Guardians of students in HSPA Support will attend the annual meeting for parents of HSPA support students.

Student Responsibilities: 1. Students in HSPA Support will attend school on a regular basis and be prompt and ready to actively participate in class. 2. Students in HSPA Support will complete assignments and prepare for formal assessments. 3. Students in HSPA Support will seek out extra help when necessary. 4. Students in HSPA Support will communicate with their parents regarding successes and challenges that the student is experiencing in school. 5. Students in HSPA Support will express an interest in decisions regarding the student’s education.
