Beneficiary and Implementing This Action is part of the Dutch High-Frequency Rail Transport Programme (PHS body: in Dutch), which aims at increasing passenger and freight rail capacity in the ProRail busiest routes of The Netherlands as to meet increasing rail transport demand www.prorail.nl by 2020.
Concerning freight transport, the objective is to diversify the freight routes. To this end, the Betuweline (Priority Project 5), the double track freight line from Rotterdam to Germany, will be optimised by deviating other routes to this freight corridor.
The freight corridor Goederenroutering Zuid Nederland (corridor GZN) is part of the TEN-T Rail Freight Corridor I and belongs to the projects of common interest. GZN will contribute to the overall objectives of the PHS by removing bottlenecks and upgrading the existing rail infrastructure in the section Meteren-Boxtel, which is the part of the corridor where adjustments are mostly required.
In order to make the necessary adjustments in this section, a variant study is proposed to examine the preferred alignment. The present co-financed studies will include: An analysis of the alternatives An Environmental Impact Assessment A detailed design of the preferred variant
State of progress on 31 December 2013: The analysis of the alternatives has been completed in 2013 and the tasks related to the Environmental Impact Assessment and detailed design of the preferred variant are ongoing.
