PROPOSED IMPLEMENTATION OF 50MPH SPEED LIMIT

STATEMENT OF REASONS

Leicestershire County Council proposes to make the following Order to address safety concerns on Alton Hill, Ravenstone with Snibstone.

The effect of the proposed Order will be to reduce the existing national speed limit on Alton Hill, From Ashby Road to End and Leicester Road, Ashby-de-la- Zouch and Leicester Road, Packington to 50mph.

Officers are proposing the reduced speed limit as part of a package of safety works on Alton Hill which has already seen the recent implementation of new signage for bend ahead and slippery road warning signs, reduce speed now signs and slow markings on both approaches to the bend on Alton Hill. Consideration was also given to refresh the existing road markings which included edge of carriageway and centre line markings. As an additional safety concern, officers have ensured that the road surface on the bend has been re- dressed. All of these recent safety measures together with the reduction in the current national speed limit are designed to address safety concerns in connection with personal injury accidents that have occurred primarily on Alton Hill, but also on the approach to Ravenstone.

This order will see the introduction of a 50mph speed limit on the following streets:

Alton Hill, From Ashby Road to End, Ravenstone with Snibston, A511 Ashby Road, Coleorton, Ashby Road and Leicester Road, Ravenstone with Snibston, Leicester Road, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Leicester Road, Packington. SCHEDULE
