Chapter: Two MORE on EDUBUNTU 1 Chapter: Two MORE ON EDUBUNTU 1. What do you understand about Rhythmbox Music Player? Ans: Rhythmbox is a multipurpose music management software available in Linux OS. It is used mainly for playing music from local media like pendrive, CD drive or local hard disk. It also plays music from online radio stations if internet connection is available. It is also used for organising playlists according to user’s choice and interest. Rhythmbox music player is also used for ripping Audio CD. 2. Differentiate between ripping and burning features of an audio CD. Ans: Ripping is a process of extracting audio tracks from an audio CD to get saved in local media as an audio file of specific format like ogg, mp3 etc. This can be done using the commonly available software, Rhythmbox music player. Burning Audio CD is a process preparing Audio tracks on a CD for audio files stored in local media like pen drive, hard disk etc. Brasero Disc Burner is a software in Linux for this purpose. 3. What is the utility of Workspaces? Ans: Workspaces are additional screens of the main desktop to organize program windows when more than one applications is opened simultaneously together. Each program window can be kept in a separate workspace or programs for same purpose may be kept in one workspace so that one can work in windows properly. Each workspace shares same desktop items. Key combinations, Ctrl+Alt+arrow keys are used to switch between workspaces in Ubuntu. 4. How will you display two application windows side by side? Ans: The steps to set two program windows side by side on the screen are as follows: * Click on the first window at its title bar and drag it to the left edge of the screen. This sets the window to occupy left half area of the screen. * Click on the second window at its title bar and drag it to the right edge of the screen. This sets the window to occupy right half area of the screen. In this way the two windows are organized. 5. What is the use of BleachBit application? Ans: BleachBit is an application program used to remove all the unnecessary and junk files like temporary Internet files, downloaded program files, trash files etc. from the local media. This makes the disk space free as well as makes the system run faster. 6. How will you install and play games in Edubuntu? Ans: Games are installed in Ubuntu using Ubuntu Software Center (USC) when Internet connection is available. The steps are as follows: * Open USC from Dash and write the name of game in the search box. * If the game is available in the repository, its icon is displayed. * Click on the icon and select install option. This installs desired game and adds its launch icon in the Dash. 7. What is the purpose of Shotwell Photo Manager? Ans: Shotwell Photo Manager is a digital photo organizing software in Ubuntu. It allows the user to import photos from camera or other digital systems, manage them to keep in different categories and export them to share with others. .

Rhythmbox is a good substitute for both audacious and xmms. XMMS is already very obsolete and it often crashes because of some of it's plugins. On the other hand audacious is sometimes having problems on my notebook working with it's alsa plugin or pulseaudio especially if I play something in youtube. With audacious my songs sometimes got stucked for some weird reason. With rhythmbox I have never experienced this kind of issues. Considering the fact that I'm a GNOME user rhythmbox is even more attractive for me. During about 2 years ago I've heard about the Jamendo - community of free, legal and unlimited music published under the Creative Commons licenses. Just about 10 months ago I've also discovered magnatune which is also a radio which allows free listening online of it's whole online catalogue. That's why it was really interesting for me to have this two nice music streaming services directly into my rhythmbox. I was very happy to discover that already a plugin that embeds the Jamendo and Magnatune Support to the Rhytmbox program. To enable Rhythmbox to support Magnatune and Jamendo type in your root terminal: debian:~# apt-get install gmpc-plugins gmpc-plugins-dbg debian:~# apt-get rhythmbox-plugins It's very likely that the rhythmbox-plugins might be already installed on your Linux, anyways I put the command above just in case if for some reason it's not installed.

Corresponding Author: [email protected] Abstract Playing songs offline consumes internal storage capacity of a device. Besides, playing songs, most of the time is an individual acting as a hobby and many song listeners do not have a common platform to share their hobby with others. By putting it on the cloud, the internal storage capacity can be reduced and the chance to share the common hobby with others is available. This paper aims to present the development of a Cloud-Based Media Player (CBMP) to ease the users in managing their song files and sharing with others. The CBMP utilizes a website as the main controller and connects to the Microsoft Azure Services to host the music database. Two separate sections are created for the user to upload and download their songs as private and share sections. Accordingly, users can choose the favored section they want to access. Not only features to upload and download songs are provided, but the CMBP also provides a search function that enables users to search songs in both different to make a search process faster. Due to latency in the cloud services, the suggested song format for CMBP is.MP3 files. The .MP3 files promote better compression rate than .MP4. Besides, .MP4 has higher latency that makes users waiting longer for processing the songs.
