10 OASIS/Montage Sept-Dec 2010 he colors red, white and blue not only represent the day of Independence, but it also represents the day that God gave me a love confirmation. On that day, in Chester SC, I was introduced to the man of my dreams, a man that had a glow of love through the fireworks. That was the day my family introduced me to, UJ. He was tall, handsome and brought joy to my life with his smile. T After the 4th of July meeting, UJ and I spent countless and endless days and n i g h t s together. UJ traveled from Chester, SC to Atlanta and I traveled from Atlanta to Chester, SC. We spent time together at resteraunts, clubs, and long walks and talks about our lives. UJ and I share a love like none other. My love for UJ was a cohesive love that was devoted to a relationship with God. There were many nights I prayed and thanked God for UJ. UJ was like no other man I’d ever met. He shared the same dreams and aspirations of Marriage, a house with a white picket fence and children. UJ and I planned to have a lifetime of love. Our lifetime plans of unity was shattered when I found out I was pregnant. I thought, “How could this happen to me? Why me? I asked God, why would you allow your child, Latonia to fall and fail a lifetime plan? Here was, young, and an educated social worker. My caseload was of preg- nancy cases, and I have now become the same case. Did I fail God? Was the love truly in the fireworks, or was this go- ing to be another bad relationship of self doubt?” Latonia came to the realization that God is a forgiving God and He won’t put more on His children than they can bare. UJ & Lato- nia prayed together for a solution to the pregnancy. Latonia spent many nights praying and crying. Here she is pregnant, 28 years old and soon to be a mother. Latonia understood the pain a child suffers when there is not two parents in the home.

OASIS/Montage Sept-Dec 2010 11 When Latonia shared her personal story of parenting with UJ, they made their future plans of marriage, a reality. They made the decision to get married quick fast and in a hurry. On February 27, 2009, UJ and La- tonia went to the Justice of Peace and got married. Latonia and UJ had a beautiful baby boy, Elijah. The two of them shared the ups and downs of living a life together as newlyweds and being new parents. Through the trials and tribulations of the newness, the two shared and everlasting and inseperable love. They continued to plan for a their traditional church wedding. The glorious wedding day of August 21, 2010 will be witnessed by a lifetime of friends and family. Although this is a ceremony of vowel renewal, they have chosen to let the whole world know that their love worked through the fire. The 4th of July was not only a celebration of Independence, it was a day of Love through the fire that has eternal life of His good works.

Marvin stated, “My generation is so quick to sell the items they inherit to receive the money. Listen up ladies as this issue’s Montage’ man takes us on a journey through his thoughts on Life, loyalty, and love.

PROFILE Ilkan Ali Newton is the new defining face of hip hop. His electrifying blend of music genres and nifty lyrics destines him to be one of the most influential artists of the decade. Ilkan believes that as an artist he has a responsi- bility to produce music that will inspire and enlighten his listeners. He aspires to promote love and unity throughout the world by way of his candid approach to the most con- troversial issues in life. His love for his craft is projected though every bar with intense emotion and truth.

ILKAN ON HIS IDEAL WOMAN My ideal woman is a woman who possesses an open mind. I’m interested in women who are innovative, cre- ative, reserved, yet spontaneous. I’m attracted to women who are willing to explore uncharted lands when it comes to taking the time to get to know their partner. I want a passionate woman who is kind, caring and non-judgmen- tal. I value trustworthiness and loyalty in anyone I associ- ate with. When I consider my ideal woman I admit there are physical attributes that I look for, however the physical features are a bonus. If a woman does not have the ability to love and is not pure of heart I am quickly turned away. The truth is everyone has character defects, but what de- fines a persons’ character is how diligently they strive to overcome them.

Being a single mother for the last eight years, has been a journey full of joyous moments as well as moments that moved me to tears. At times, I have loathed be- ing single because it can often be a lonely experience, however I have never been ashamed of being single. The status “single” has never defined me, for I refuse to wear it as a badge of shame or one of honor. With time I have realized that words such as mother, pro- fessional, mentor, sister and friend describe me far more than the label single. I have a multitude of other blessings such as the love given to me by my awesome son, parents, family and friends. Over time I have fo- cused on this love and adoration instead of the love that I’m not receiving from my future soul mate. 28 OASIS/Montage Sept-Dec 2010 Remember, some men are placed in your life for a season, so don’t try to extend their stay with excuses.
