The Hunger Games & A Dystopian World

Miss Z, English 3 FIRST THINGS FIRST:

The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel. “The Loery” is a dystopian story

Dystopia: A futurisc, imagined world, characterized by an oppressed society and a controlling ruling force (a government, the big businesses, a technologically superior group).

No such thing as freedom (speech, press, religion, belief…).

The society is an illusion of a perfect utopian world. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!

Dystopias, through an exaggerated worst-case scenario, make a cricism about the current trend, societal norm, or polical system. Ø “The Loery” was wrien in 1948, aer WW II. Shirley Jackson found a way to cricize the inhumane treatment of human beings by other human beings, who were each other’s neighbors.
