It was much more interesting writing with a plot that definitely held my attention. Table of Contents. Citations contain only title, author, edition, publisher, and year published. As the Scarecrow's origin is unfurled, Batman must find out not only how to conquer this dangerous psychopath, but how to beat his own worst fear. Author Notes. There is a bit of indulgence and excess in how grim and tragic the story was told that it takes me aback half the time while reading. That's interesting since it makes Scarecrow as much more sympathetic figure than he is usually shown to be. It's a classic tale we all know as Bat-fans, but the zero issue's take lacked any kind of new insight to this aspect of Bruce's tormented psyche. Lightly used, but almost like new. In most cases, boxed games and box sets do not come with dice. Another tome I had forgotten to log while I was sick! Our grading system is listed below for your perusal. Welcome back. The most memorable moments of that book were also its most horrendously absurd particularly the creation of the White Rabbit lady who I disliked with fervor, I finished the first volume of The Dark Knight series just earlier this month, which was misleadingly entitled Knight Terrors penned by David Jenkins. The only thing they have in common is the concept and flimsy deconstruction of FEAR. Character-wise this was a very interesting read because it both showed a more complicated view of Bruce Wayne in terms of him not only being damaged by his past but trying to find ways to overcome it and at the same time having an actual struggle with his present personal life, something I've found lacking or completely non-existent in other Batman stories, both comic and movie. Rating details. As the Scarecrow's origin is unfurled, Batman must find out not only how to conquer this dangerous psychopath, but how to beat his own worst fear. We're finally gong to find out what made Bruce Wayne decide to become Batman! It got its point across, but expressions seemed to be in the shadows a bit too much. Children are being kidnapped in Gotham City, then later returning to the streets traumatized and refusing to speak of their ordeal. As a result of the fear toxin, the sub-conscious of Bruce Wayne forces him to face uncomfortable truths. Yes, he opens his veins and his Batplane squirts his blood across the city! Just a teeny bit more psychotic than usual Place Hold. Still, Scarecrow gets a bit of a New 52 origins update. Yes, he can, if he allows himself to do so. This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available. This is the first time reading Hurwitz's work, to my recollection, and it's pretty good. Can he become close to anyone other than his immediate family and the Justice League? Close to perfect, very collectible. The main story is equally disturbing; this is not a family friendly Scarecrow. Get Recommendations from Library Concierge. I didn't mind this angle of Bruce's story for this volume because I'm honestly still hangover from the unfulfilled and unresolved character arc about Silver St. Overall, I liked and disliked both volumes for varied reasons. Like Bruce, I just kept saying This one surprised me.     ABSTRACT “WHY SO SERIOUS?” COMICS, FILM AND POLITICS, OR THE COMIC BOOK FILM AS THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY AND NARRATIVE IN A POST-9/11 WORLD by Kyle Andrew Moody This thesis analyzes a trend in a subgenre of motion pictures that are designed to not only entertain, but also provide a message for the modern world after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The analysis provides a critical look at three different films as artifacts of post-9/11 culture, showing how the integration of certain elements made them allegorical works regarding the status of the United States in the aftermath of the attacks. Jean Baudrillard‟s postmodern theory of simulation and simulacra was utilized to provide a context for the films that tap into themes reflecting post-9/11 reality. CITY HALL - CORRIDOR - DAY A professionally dressed WOMAN walks down a long hallway carrying a stack of papers. Her footsteps echo. She walks up to a door at the end of the hallway, which has a sign on or near it that reads "Mayor, Gotham City". She pushes open the door. INT. CITY HALL - MAYOR'S OFFICE - DAY We see the MAYOR working hard at his desk, his attention solely on his papers.

Understanding the various artists and audiences and what Batman means to them is to understand changing trends and thinking in American culture. The character of Batman has developed into a symbol with relevant characteristics that develop and evolve with each new story and new author. The Batman canon has become so large and contains so many different audiences that it has become a franchise that can morph to fit any group of viewers/readers. Our understanding of Batman and the many readings of him gives us insight into ourselves as a culture in our particular place in history.
