Billy Connolly: Portrait of a Lifetime  NEW Wednesday 14 June BBC One Scotland, 9.00-10.00pm

As his old friend says, Billy Connolly is “a phenomenon. He is…larger than life.” And this new documentary reveals the becoming literally that… in 50 ft plus murals dotted around ’s city centre. To mark Billy Connolly turning 75 this year, BBC Scotland commissioned three original artworks from top Scottish artists Byrne, and Rachel Maclean. Working in conjunction with Glasgow City Council’s City Centre Mural trail and arts project manager Art Pistol Projects, these have now been translated into stunning and dramatic wallends in Dixon Street, Osbourne Street and the Gallowgate. And in the wake of these going up, this programme reveals the inside story of the project with Billy meeting and posing for the artists to talk about his life, career, art and philosophy. The programme reveals Billy chatting about their early days together with John Byrne…discussing a gig in Methil with Jack Vettriano… And getting made up in blue and pink tinged make-up, and donning a wonderfully outlandish outfit adorned with motifs from his career, for his photographic session for Rachel Maclean’s digital print. Then Billy reviews their finished artworks. Along the way there are also some classic clips of Billy at his best on stage. With the murals already on display in the city centre, the original portraits will - the day after the programme - go on display in Glasgow’s People’s Palace.

BBC Arts Digital is asking people to submit their own portraits of Billy Connolly. The best of the submissions will go on display in the People’s Palace, in Glasgow, in tandem with the original artworks for the BBC project by top Scottish artists John Byrne, Jack Vettriano and Rachel Maclean, and will also be showcased in an online gallery. The portraits can be submitted via social media using the hashtag #BigYinPortrait by Facebook, Twitter or Instagram or by emailing [email protected] Details and terms and conditions are available here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3QfyFlsqlgybxmCP3pmynZw/portrait-of-a-comedian-billy- connolly-becomes-high-art

Fuine/Cooking - Seasonal Fruits, Ep 7/8 Wednesday 14 June BBC ALBA, 8.30 – 9.00pm

Mairi MacRitchie is in the Highlands and Islands meeting home bakers to find out their favourite recipes using seasonal fruit. With a rich abundance of great local produce, they show viewers how to make the most of what they’ve got on their doorstep. Travelling across the country from Tain to Uist, Mairi sees how the classic toffee apple flavour can be adapted for a fruity loaf with soft pieces of apple throughout and a sticky caramel icing. With brambles so readily available, she tastes a recipe for an upside down cake combining them with apples and a bramble sponge topped with a crunchy crumble topping. From her own kitchen in Uist, Mairi shows viewers how she makes the most of seasonal produce. Using beautifully tart pink rhubarb she gives the classic French clafoutis an unusual twist and with ripe red raspberries and strawberries she adds flavour and a vibrant colour to the traditional soufflé.
