Nikolas Rose has published widely over a thirty year period, with work translated into 13 languages. His books and edited collections span numerous fields and disciplines, including biology, psychology, sociology, politics and law; drawing out linkages between and across his areas of expertise. In essence, his work explores what it means to be human and the implications this has for society and government, now and in the future. For the last decade, his work has focussed on the conceptual, social and political dimensions of the contemporary life sciences and biomedicine.

Rose was a founding editor of two influential radical journals in the 1970s and 1980s: Ideology and Consciousness (I&C); and Politics and Power. He has collaborated with a number of leading scholars, including Paul Rabinow, Peter Miller, Andrew Barry, Thomas Osborne and Joelle M. Abi-Rached. From 1996 to 2004, he was Managing Editor of leading interdisciplinary journal, Economy and Society, and remains an active member of its Editorial Board. He is Co- editor of BioSocieties: an interdisciplinary journal for social studies of the life sciences.
