HPE Servers IDC White Paper: Superdome X: Performance, Scalability, Reliability, and Flexibility for Modernizing SAP Environments A huge amount of SAP runs on UNIX today. Customers not yet ready for HANA can "modernise the core" by moving to industry standard compute with Linux, and keeping their current database. Converged Systems, now Hybrid IT, and our SAP Alliance team are implementing a program and in support of this we have a new white paper from IDC. IDC says they "took an in-depth look at Hewlett Packard Enterprise's (HPE's) Integrity Superdome X, and we believe that this platform may be the answer for the following SAP customer segments: those migrating from a Unix platform, those migrating from a smaller standard x86 system, and those contemplating a large, greenfield SAP implementation on x86." In this exclusive review, we look at the Apollo 4510 which also targets applications such as web and cloud storage services, hosted backup, content delivery and data archiving. Read more Scality Strengthens Partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise for Software-Defined File and Object Storage Scality announced an enhanced partnership between Scality and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) designed to accelerate the adoption of software-defined object and file storage with enterprises and service providers who are struggling to overcome the problems of data storage at massive scale. The enhanced partnership includes a commitment to integrate engineering strategies and deepen go-to-market collaboration with new sales resources, marketing investment, and other business development programs. This builds on the October 2014 announcement where Hewlett Packard began packaging Scality RING software with its Apollo 4000 and ProLiant servers. As part of today’s announcement, Hewlett Packard Ventures completed a strategic equity investment in Scality, as an addition to Series D. Read more Cloud and Big Data: The Real Stars of DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 3 Until recently, having two furry characters hug on screen at DreamWorks Animation—whose latest film, Kung Fu Panda 3, was released January 29—often became a roadblock in the studio’s creative process. Why? It takes a ton of CPUs to create an animated scene where two furry characters physically intertwined. Creators of 2006’s “Over the Hedge,” for instance, had to limit the number of hugs the characters exchanged because of CGI limitations in the hardware and software at the time. But that was then. Today, DreamWorks Animation is tapping into much faster and more efficient compute capabilities through a managed private cloud that globally connects DreamWorks Animation’s artists from Shanghai, China to Glendale, California with zero down time and advanced servers that increase render efficiency to about 200,000 jobs per day. That’s an important development too, since the first two films focused on just one panda, and Kung Fu Panda 3 tells a story that revolves around an entire village of pandas who like to hug and, of course, kung fu fight.
