Martin has done extensive work on the Baring-Gould collection and pens some fine songs himself. Shan adds all the right notes. Tuesday, June 21: Kapriol - this four person Dutch/Frisian band will bring us a program of sea songs and music accented with multiple harmonies and great arrangements, both traditional and composed. Be there to experience this rare"Dutch treat". Tuesday, June 28: featured guests Chris Foster and Bara Grimsdottir - from Ice- land - Chris is originally from the UK and is rated up there with the likes of Nic Jones and Martin Carthy. His partner, Bara, sings in Icelandic. They have formed a group called FUNI. This is a rare opportunity to hear some great music and another genre of songs - don't miss it. Brooklyn Folk Festival; Friday-Sunday, June 10-12 The 3rd annual Brooklyn Folk Festival, will be held at the Jalopy Theater and Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition in Brooklyn.. The festival features the best young talent from Brooklyn’s exploding folk music scene as well as luminaries from the genera- tion that made the 1960’s New York City folk music revival. The music will include traditional styles such as old-time string band music, blues, jug band music, traditional music of Mexico, the Balkans and West Africa, North Indian classical music, local songwriters and more! There are concerts throughout the day as well as workshops on various musical styles, film screenings and a Sunday afternoon square dance! This year will also inaugurate the Brooklyn Folk Festival “Banjo Toss.” -- the person who throws a banjo the farthest will win a free banjo!! See the schedule and location information on page 7. The William Main Doerflinger Memorial Sea Shanty Sessions at the Noble Maritime Collection (to give the official title) continue on the third Sunday of the month, from 2 to 5 PM at the Noble Gallery, Building D, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY. Pinewoods Folk Music Club presents Happy Traum Friday, June 17, 8pm rd At OSA Hall, 220 E.23 St.,#707 (between 2nd & 3rd Ave) Happy began playing guitar and 5-string banjo as a teenager, and was an ac- tive participant in the legendary Greenwich Village folk scene of the 1950s and ‘60s. He has performed extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and Japan, both as a soloist and as a member of various groups. His avid interest in traditional and contemporary music has brought him recogni- tion as a performer, writer, editor, session musician, folklorist, teacher, and recording artist. Members: $10.
