I hope you will take the time to look through the program to be aware of the financial support we are receiving from the local business community. > It may be bad form .to begin this message with a commercial paragraph, but it serves to underline the significance of the dollar in our athletic enterprise. Our athletic program is intensely people-oriented and we are very proud of our student-athletes. They are all winners, no matter what their won-lost records. Despite the high priority we have for people, we face the continuing fact of life that what we are doing costs money. Our budget pays for uniforms, equipment, administrative costs, some salaries, and above all, travel. Our funds come from (in order of importance) the University's operating budget, the student athletic fee, a federal government travel grant, and gate receipts. It's clear from this information that gate receipts are not a very significant part of our income but as an indicator of your support they are invaluable. The support of our "publics," including students, faculty, staff, alumni, plus the so-called "general" public, is vitally important to us. When we have your support we know from experience the politicians in Edmonton and Ottawa are more sympathetic and our Board of Governors and administration treat us more kindly. Please continue to show us your interest. If you have fun at Pronghorn events tell your friends. If you don't, please tell us. Many thanks. JL._D ,.: L_iji " ".••;?• ^mmmttjjjL.''''--' --'*e&*g?~f One of Alberta's four universities, The University of Lethbridge was established January 1, 1967, having evolved from the University Section of the Lethbridge Junior College. Enrolment at the University has increased from 638 students in its first year of operation to approximately 1,530 full time students last year. In 1971, the University moved from its shared campus at the College to its present location on 457 acres in West Lethbridge. Designed by Vancouver architect Arthur Erickson, the "Campus in the Coulees" has received international acclaim for its architectural originality, functional design and spacious environment. Focal point of the campus is the visually stunning Academic/Residence Building which houses the majority of classrooms and laboratories, as well as residences for 362 students. Also located here are the library, administrative offices, bookstore and cafeteria. The Physical Education/Fine Arts Building features both a large and a small gymnasium. Supporting areas include painting, sculpturing and drama studios, and an art gallery. In October, 1978, the University began construction of the west wing of the campus plan. This second phase of the physical development consists of a large building to house the Departments of Art, Dramatic Arts, Music and the Fine Arts components in the Faculty of Education, along with a 412 seat theatre. It is expected to be ready for occupancy for the spring semester of 1981. The U of L is a liberal arts, undergraduate university offering several degree programs in both Arts and Science and Education. In addition, it offers programs for transfer of credit to other universities in many professional faculties such as Agriculture and Forestry, Engineering and Pharmacy. U of L's Continuing Education Division offers a wide variety of credit and non-credit courses, seminars and workshops, held evenings and weekends in Lethbridge and surrounding Southern Alberta centres. Welcome to the 2019 Symposium Message from the Academic Director Dear Symposium Presenters, Attendees, Friends, and Guests: On behalf of the Institute for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at Mount Royal University, I would like to warmly welcome you to the 9th Annual Symposium on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. We have gathered each year as a scholarly community to share our questions and discoveries in teaching and learning in the post-secondary context with the exception of 2017 when we hosted ISSOTL 2017 with partners at the University of Calgary. We are excited to share the next few days with you. This year, we are again looking forward to our line-up of keynote speakers, pre-conference sessions, presentations, and posters. The cracker barrel session, which provides a more intimate format for presentation and discussion was so successful last year, we are doing it again on Friday. We also reprise the incredible Pop-Up Poetry – be sure to sit down with a poet to have your very own Symposium poem composed! Concurrent sessions have been organized into themes of research on teaching and learning, involving undergraduate students in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), teaching and learning with technology, collaboration beyond the single classroom, methodologies and innovative approaches to data gathering and analysis, and calls for collaboration and development.
