NATIONAL DEAFby Connie BOWLING Marchione NEWS DEAF TRAVEL LEAGUE BI-WEEKLY FEE STAYS AT $25.00 PER SESSION NORWALK — In last week’s column I wrote that in So. Calif. Deaf Traveling League meeting at Keystone Lanes the members voted to go back to the old $20.00 bi-weekly fee. That was a mis- take and the correction is the bowlers voted to change the League’s side pot optional Masters entry fee from $25.00 back to its original $20.00 entry fee. The return is intended to get more members to compete. I apologize for this error. The $25.00 league bi-weekly fee stays for another year. The members voted for the $5.00 in- crease last season to offset the increase in bowling fees by the bowling centers the league travel to. Also the rest will add little more money to the league’s prize money. Furthermore the $25.00 league fee is justified because this traveling league bowls on every other week. It is like splitting to $12.50 for each week. Compare that to $13.00 league fees each week I pay to bowl in my Tuesday Afternoon Seniors League at Mission Hills Bowl. Hopefully with the above in mind, more deaf and hearing-impaired bowlers will join this deaf bowlers traveling league. NOTE TO DEAF & HEARING-IMPAIRED SENIOR BOWLERS: DEADLINE IS SEPT. 12 LAS VEGAS — The 17th annual Deaf Senior Bowlers of America Tournament will be held in The Orleans Hotel, Casino and Bowling Center on October 15-17, 2013. This tournament is open to deaf and hearing impaired senior men 55 years old and up and senior women at least 50 years old and up. The events are with handicap in separate singles, mixed doubles and Deaf Queens and Deaf Masters Match Plays. The mixed doubles can be man-woman, man-man or woman-woman. The handicap is 100% of 210 for singles and doubles events and 80% of 210 average for both double elimination Match Plays. Based on entries of 100 men and 100 women, the first place Singles is $1000, first place Mixed Doubles is $2000 and first place Match Plays is $1000. The entry fees are $35.00 for Singles and $35.00 for Doubles and $15.00 for DSBA dues for total of $85.00 to start with. If you want to enter in optional all events (Singles and Doubles) that is $5.00 extra. Also if you want to bowl in optional Queens or Masters Match Plays, that is $40.00 extra. All that is $130.00 per bowler or just $85.00 without the optionals. The Orleans Hotel is offering a special rate of $32.00 per night, Sunday to Thursday and $89.00 for Friday and Saturday nights. This special rate must be reserved before Friday September 13. For more information and entry forms contact Ed Abakumoff, DSBA secretary-treasurer by email [email protected] or V-P 951-208-6548.
