Aptian to Turonian Radiolarians from Chert Blocks in the Kuamut Melange, Sabah, Malaysia
Sains Malaysiana 42(5)(2013): 561–570 Aptian to Turonian Radiolarians from Chert Blocks in the Kuamut Melange, Sabah, Malaysia (Aptian hingga Turonian Radiolaria daripada Blok Rijang dalam Melange Kuamut, Sabah, Malaysia) JUNAIDI ASIS* & BASIR JASIN ABSTRACT The Kuamut Melange is located in the Kunak district, south east Sabah. The mélange consists of clasts and blocks of broken Paleogene formations and dismembered ophiolite blocks embedded in shale matrix. Fourteen samples were collected from sections S1 and S2 of the Kuamut Melange. A total of 45 species of radiolarians have been identified and only 36 selected species are used for age determination. Three assemblages (I-III) were identified. Assemblage I consists of Dictyomitra excellence, Crucella bossoensis, Hiscocapsa asseni, Hexapyramis precedis, Thanarla brouweri, Acanthocircus levis, Obeliscoites vinassai, Stichomitra communis, Staurosphaeretta longispina, Xitus spicularius, Triactoma cellulosa, and Dactyliosphaera maxima. This assemblage is marked by the occurrence of Crucella gavalai indicative of Aptian to Albian in age. Assemblage II was characterized by zonal maker Xitus mclaughlini. Other species in this assemblage are Xitus spinosus, Stichomitra tosaensis, Dictyomitra gracilis, Dictyomitra montisserei, Pseudodictyomitra pseudomacrocephala, Pessagnobrachia fabianii, Crucella messinae, Tuguriella pagoda, Dictyomitra obesa, Triactoma paronai, Rhopalosyringium euganeum, Acanthocircus venetus, Acaeniotyle rebelis, Dictyomitra formosa, Pseudodictyomitra tiara and Patellula helios. -

The theme for this year’s edition is “Public Health Challenges: Turning Adversity into An Opportunity”. The organising committee has carefully outlined a programme that provides opportunities for enhancement in scientific knowledge as well as personal experiences. www.lionsclubs308a2.org.my www.facebook.com/lionsclubs308a2 District Email: [email protected] WE SERVE Despite the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, 243 service projects have been carried out in our District during the month of November. 9 Clubs from Region 2 & 3 have also completed a 3 days 2 nights Region 3 Rural Service Project for natives from 7 longhouses in the interior part of Sarawak. It was a great fellowship for all Lions who have participated. Clubs are encouraged to carry out more overnight rural service projects during the next few months. District Foundation is willing to share part of the cost. Lions Club of Kuching Elite from Region 1 has been reinstated by LCI after having zero membership for 3 months. The new Board of Directors have also been installed during the month. Waiving of LCI new member entrance fees of USD35 will end by 31/12/2020. Clubs which have planned to add in new members in 2021 may consider to add in December 2020. Total dues saved will be USD13.50 per member. District Subsidized Lions Training will be continued during the next few months. All qualified Lions are encouraged to apply to join Emerging Lions Leaders Institute which will be held in Sibu from 22/1/2021 to 24/1/2021. District Certified Trainers Program & Faculty Development Institute will be held in March next year. Wishing all of you a safe and healthy life. The new species are D. bintuluensis Sunamo & H. Ohashi found in Sarawak , D. kostermansii Sunamo & H. Ohashi in Kalimantan and Sarawak , D. richardsii Sunamo & H. Ohashi in Sarawak , and D. sandakanensis Sunamo & H. Ohashi in Sabah. Three species new to Bomeo are D. canescens Merrill and D. mimosella mimosella (Blanco) Prain , both previously known in the Philippines ,andD. hullettii Prain in in Singapore. Dalbergia phyllanthoides Blume ex Miq. is regarded to be a new synonym of of D. junghuhnii Benth. Of the 21 species following eight (38% for total species of Dalbergia Dalbergia in Bomeo) are endemic to Borneo ,i. e. , D. bintuluensis , D. borneensis , D. falcata , D. havilandii , D. hoseana , D. kostermansii , D. richardsii ,andD. sandakanensis. A key to all the species and an enumeration of species with their correct names ,synonyms , bibliography ,distribution ,habitat and ecology , vemacular names , a list of specimens examined , and taxonomic notes are presented.
