BEARS IN THE BIG LEAGUES Since David Esquer became the Cal coach in 2000, 67 Bears have signed professional contracts, including four fi rst round selections - right-hander Brandon Morrow, who in 2006 became the highest draft pick in school history when he was the fi fth pick overall by the Seattle Mariners; center fi elder Jackson, a fi rst-round pick of the Chicago Cubs in 2009; fi rst base- man David Cooper, a fi rst-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2008; and third baseman Conor Jackson, who in 2003 was drafted in the fi rst round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. This spring, six Bears are on Major League rosters, including right- hander Tyson Ross, who was a National League All-Star for the San Diego Padres, and Allen Craig, with the Boston Red Sox. Craig won a World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011 and was a Major League All-Star in 2013.
