China, a large developing country, adopting a "Re form and Opening up" policy, and relying on its compara tive advantages, has also achieved rapid economic progress. The economic achievement in Jiangsu province is probably one of the most impressive cases in the country. Jiangsu1s economic progress has, to a great extent, depended on the following two factors. Firstly, a large number of small and medium scale industries in rural and township areas have made big strides forward. Secondly, development, adaptation and application of new technolo gy and research results has given new vitality to the indus trial enterprises. It is worth mentioning that the imple mentation of the "Torch Programme" and the "Spark Pro gramme" in recent years have encouraged and boosted re search and development for new technologies by universi ties and colleges, R&D institutions and industrial enter prises. This has greatly improved the competitiveness of the industrial enterprises. This Compendium is intended to introduce Jiangsu 1s capabilities to other developing countries in the Asia and Pacific region and to promote production and technology cooperation. The technology items in this Compendium have been drawn from many offers by various cities, universities and R&-D institutions in the Jiangsu province. They cover ar eas such as ele~tronics, textiles, chemicals, engineering , electro-mechanics, building materials, agro-industry, food and medicine, etc. When recommending these technolo gies, we try to maintain that they be advanced, practical, efficient and easy to operate. In the future, we shall continue to update our tech nology Compendium for distribution to other developing countries. We shall, at the same time, seek advanced technologies and experiences from other countries, includ ing developing countries, so as to promote a wide-ranging cooperation in economy, technology and trade. How to Use the Compendium The technology offers in this Compendium are cata logued and grouped under the industrial sub-sectors. Each item has been preceeded with an order number. At the end of each item, we also provide name of the city or area which offers the technology. In the index directory for ad dresses, item numbers are also provided. Efforts are made to bring the entries of technology information correspond ing to the index addresses. This will make the reading of the Compendium easy. Thus, when searching for a specif ic technology, he or she can easily find the contact address of the technology supplier. Under each item, we provide brief information on the title of the technology, specification, application and coop eration modalities. Any reader who is interested in seeking technology cooperation could contact the institutions directly. Howev er, they are also welcome to approach our Centre if they wish to do so. We can render assistance in identifying technology, arranging business negotiation and tours. • 1 RIVERBED EVOLUTION of UPPER PART of YANGTZE ESTUARY and ITS RESPONSE to the HYDRODYNAMIC CHANGES at UPSTREAM Yongping Chen1
RIVERBED EVOLUTION OF UPPER PART OF YANGTZE ESTUARY AND ITS RESPONSE TO THE HYDRODYNAMIC CHANGES AT UPSTREAM Yongping Chen1, Ninglin Jiang 2 and Changkuan Zhang3 The riverbed evolution of upper part of Yangtze estuary, Chengtong reach, is analyzed by comparison of 6 sets of bathymetry data during 1977~2011. The significant changes of water depth profiles along 6 representative cross- sections indicate this reach is still in the process of development. In order to get a better understanding of the effect of river discharge at upstream on the riverbed evolution of Chengtong reach, a series of numerical experiments are implemented by specifying different river discharge conditions at the upper boundary. The corresponding discharge ratios of main and secondary channels at 3 main sub-reaches are compared. The results show that with the increase of river discharge, the discharge ratio in the main channels of Fujiangsha sub-reach and Rugaosha sub-reach increases, but it changes to decrease when the upstream river discharge becomes very large; however, the discharge ratio in the main channel of Tongzhousha sub-reach always decreases with the increase of river discharge at upstream. The discharge ratio of secondary channel has an adverse tendency. Keywords: Yangtze estuary; Chengtong reach; riverbed evolution; numerical modeling; upstream discharge INTRODUCTION Yangtze River is the longest river in China and the third longest river in the world. The estuary of Yangtze River starts from Ebizui of Jiangsu Province and reaches the East China Sea by the city of Shanghai. In recent years, the riverbed of Yangtze estuary has exhibited significant changes under the effects of natural evolution and anthropogenic works (Yang et al, 2006; Liu et al, 2007).
