Fighting for Human Rights Has Been a Guiding Principle Throughout My Life and Career and I Want to Commit My Passion and Energy to FRA
1. Could you describe the reasons of your application for the post and why you consider yourself suitable for the post? Fighting for human rights has been a guiding principle throughout my life and career and I want to commit my passion and energy to FRA. While some may take fundamental rights in Europe for granted, data shows there is still much work to be done. High levels of anti-Semitism, discrimination against Roma and persons with disabilities, violence against women and LGBTI people, violation of children’s rights, racism and hate speech and discrimination based on race or religion are just some examples. To ensure that fundamental rights can become a reality for all in the EU, we need to further increase the impact and visibility of FRA's work. A lawyer by education, I started my career in the European Commission's external relations DG. Later I had the privilege of working on the historical accession of the new Member States to the EU as cabinet member and later Spokeswoman for Commissioner Van den Broek. The Commission’s reporting on the Copenhagen criteria, including on human rights, was a crucial element supporting transition, also by strengthening local actors to advocate for change. In 1999, I was elected to the European Parliament, where I served, inter alia, as vice-president of the Justice and Civil Liberties Committee. After a term in the Dutch national parliament - where I was spokeswoman on justice, police, terrorism, human rights and equal opportunities - I served as chief of staff to the President of the International Criminal Court (ICC). -

Congrestoespraak Lousewies van der Laan 7 oktober 2006, 15:00 Toespraak van Lousewies van der Laan tijdens het Jubileumcongres op 7 oktober in Amsterdam Democraten, Ik heb niet een hele speech voorbereid, met een kop en staart enzo. Maar ik zal proberen er bij in de buurt te komen. Want ik ben toch heel blij dat ik hier vandaag namens de Tweede Kamerfractie wat mag zeggen. Want het is goed gebruik bij ons in de partij dat jullie vertegenwoordigers in het Parlement ook hier verantwoording afleggen over wat wij doen. Bijvoorbeeld in relatie tot het kabinetsbeleid.Want misschien heeft u er iets over gelezen, er zijn wat dat betreft wel een paar dingetjes gebeurd sinds wij elkaar hier de laatste keer spraken. Want hoewel het congres tot twee keer toe nadrukkelijk heeft uitgesproken dat wij moesten deelnemen aan het kabinet Balkenende II, heeft de fractie toch de noodzaak gezien daaraan een einde te maken. Dat vraagt dus om een verklaring. Toen ik namens D66 de steun opzegde in het kabinet, had dat één reden. Namelijk dat het voor ons onacceptabel was dat mevrouw Verdonk gewoon minister van integratie en asiel zou blijven nadat zij acht uur lang aantoonbare onzin aan de kamer had verkocht in de gevoelige kwestie rond het Nederlanderschap van Ayaan Hirsi Ali. U bent het misschien alweer een beetje kwijt, maar Rita Verdonk hield bij hoog en laag vol dat zij niet anders kon handelen dan zij deed, toen zij zonder enig onderzoek en binnen luttle uren het paspoort van een kamerlid afpakte. Dat was een novum, een minister die effectief een lid van de Nederlandse volksvertegenwoordiging uitschakelde. -

In order to do so, it examines how the European Parliament (EP), the European Commission, the Court of Justice, and earlier European institutions responded to whistleblowing, between 1957 and 2002. In 2019, the EP agreed to encourage and pro- tect whistleblowers. However, whistleblowing is far from a recent phenomenon. Historical examples include Louis Worms (1957), Stanley Adams (1973), and Paul van Buitenen (1998). Based on policy documents and parliamentary debates, this article studies the attitudes and reactions within European institutions towards whistleblowing. Their responses to unau- thorized disclosures show how their views on openness developed from the beginning of European integration. Such cases sparked debate on whether whistleblowers deserved praise for revealing misconduct, or criticism for breaching corporate and political secrecy. In addition, whistleblowing cases urged politicians and officials to discuss how valuable transparency was, and whether the public deserved to be informed. This article adds a historical perspective to the multidisciplinary literature on whistleblowing. Both its focus on the European Coal and Steel Community, European Economic Community, and EU and its focus on changing attitudes towards transparency provide an important contribution to this multidisci- plinary field. -

To what extent does the Food Law Enforcement Practitioners group (FLEP) influence European Commission policy in food safety matters? In the minutes of the meeting of the Netherlands food inspection service (KvW) on 19 September 2001 in The Hague it was said of the FLEP that: The original aim of the FLEP was to gain an understanding of the organisation of the inspection of food in different countries … Subsequently it involved the exchange of information between countries and advising the European Commission … Mr Wolfs responded that many of the FLEP’s recommendations were taken on board by the European Commission and that the FLEP had a great deal of influence on the programmes coordinated. 2. Is the European Commission aware that it is impossible for the European Parliament and national associations in the food and catering sector to obtain information on the matters being discussed in this informal club? 3. Does the Commission consider that it is healthy for an informal consultative body to have so much influence on its decision-making when the general public, politicians and interest groups are denied access to information about the relevant meetings? 4. Lijst van gevallen en tussentijds vertrokken wethouders Over de periode 2002-2006, 2006-2010, 2010-2014, 2014-2018 Inleiding De lijst van gevallen en tussentijds vertrokken wethouders verschijnt op de website van De Collegetafel als bijlage bij het boek Valkuilen voor wethouders, uitgegeven door Boombestuurskunde Den Haag. De lijst geeft een overzicht van alle gevallen en tussentijds vertrokken wethouders in de periode 2002 tot en met 2018. Deze lijst van gevallen en tussentijds vertrokken wethouders betreft de wethouders die vanwege een politieke vertrouwensbreuk tijdelijk en/of definitief ten val kwamen tijdens de collegeperiode (vanaf het aantreden van de wethouders na de collegevorming tot het einde van de collegeperiode) en van wethouders die om andere redenen tussentijds vertrokken of voor wie het wethouderschap eindigde voor het einde van de reguliere collegeperiode. De valpartijen van wethouders zijn in deze lijst benoemd als gevolg van een tijdelijke of definitieve politieke vertrouwensbreuk, uitgaande van het vertrekpunt dat een wethouder na zijn benoeming of wethouders na hun benoeming als lid van een college het vertrouwen heeft/hebben om volwaardig als wethouder te functioneren totdat hij/zij dat vertrouwen verliest dan wel het vertrouwen verliezen van de hen ondersteunende coalitiepartij(en). Of wethouders al dan niet gebruik hebben gemaakt van wachtgeld is geen criterium voor het opnemen van ten val gekomen wethouders in de onderhavige lijst. Patronen De cijfermatige conclusies en de geanalyseerde patronen in Valkuilen voor wethouders zijn gebaseerd op deze lijst van politiek (tijdelijk of definitief) gevallen en tussentijds vertrokken wethouders. De reden van het ten val komen of vertrek is in de lijst toegevoegd zodat te zien is welke bijvoorbeeld politieke valpartijen zijn. -

Considerando que cerca de 14 millones de personas en la Unión Europea y entre el 1 y el 3 % de la población mundial total sufre de fibromialgia, un síndrome debilitante que causa dolores crónicos generalizados, B. Considerando que, aunque la Organización Mundial de la Salud reconoció la fibromialgia como enfer medad ya en 1992, esta patología no está incluida en el índice oficial de patologías en la UE, lo cual impide a los pacientes obtener un diagnóstico oficial, C. Considerando que las personas que sufren de fibromialgia acuden con más frecuencia al médico de cabe cera, son remitidos con mayor frecuencia a especialistas, reciben más certificados de baja por enfermedad y son hospitalizados con mayor frecuencia, lo que genera una carga económica considerable para la UE, D. Considerando que los pacientes de fibromialgia tienen que luchar por llevar una vida plena e indepen diente, a menos que tengan acceso a un tratamiento y un apoyo adecuados, 1.
