Our team is proud to lead the 2019 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta media relations team. 2019 MEDIA GUIDE WELCOME On Behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and hundreds of Navigators (volunteers), welcome to the 2019 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Presented by Canon. As a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, I have had the great fortune to grow up around our great annual celebrations, starting with the one that started it all in 1972, when I was not yet quite old enough to walk on my own. It is a true honor to work with our wonderful community to ensure Balloon Fiesta will launch (and land!) for future generations to enjoy it as much as I have. The Balloon Fiesta could not operate without the support of our thousands of Navigators who selflessly volunteer countless hours throughout the year to ensure the continued success of our event. Thank you also to our corporate sponsors for their financial support that allows us to put on a world-class event while always striving to improve our guest experience. We are also fortunate to have neighbors who continue to work with us to improve the relationship between Balloon Fiesta and our local community. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated pilots and crews who join us from all around the world each year to make our event so wonderful and unique. If it wasn’t for our pilots and their crew, we would not have a Balloon Fiesta! This year’s event offers a variety of amazing events from before the sun rises until the stars once again fill the sky in the evening. There is truly nothing like the unparalleled sight of the skies filled with balloons during our Mass Ascensions. We are very pleased to once again host the prestigious and elegant America’s Challenge gas balloon race after a one- year hiatus. The evening magic of the Balloon Glows and fireworks show are some of our most popular events. The flying competitions during the weekdays can be immensely enjoyable to watch, as the pilots skillfully attempt to accomplish their particular task of the day. Music Fiesta has grown in popularity over the years and will be the second Saturday (October 12). Whether you are a first-time visitor, a fellow native of Albuquerque, or fortunate enough to return each year, we hope you thoroughly enjoy the City of Albuquerque, the State of New Mexico and the 48th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Since 1991, and keeping in mind the high profile nature of event’s international stature, Balloon Fiesta Public Safety Officers complement law enforcement and first responders. In 2019, the event will have public safety officers working in conjunction with law enforcement officers and other first responders to keep this the safest place to be in New Mexico. Our public safety team and law enforcement will be visible throughout Balloon Fiesta Park, including our security checkpoints at all public entrances to our event. This includes the checkpoints used by credentialed media entering Balloon Fiesta Park. Each of our eight(8) public entrances will have six to eight lanes for bag checks and metal detector screening. Each gate will have marked lanes for those with bags (Bag Check Lanes) and those without bags (Express Lanes). Information and best practices for guests: • Conceal Carry, weapons and knives are not allowed into Balloon Fiesta Park during the 2019 event. • Metal detectors will be used at our public entrances. Each entrance will have six to eight security lanes with marked “Bag Check” lanes and “Express” lanes (without bags) • All bags and coolers will be checked by Balloon Fiesta Public Safety Officers before being allowed onto Balloon Fiesta Park. • There will be bag checks, the fewer items you have, the faster you’ll get through the security line.

    ‘British Small Craft’: the cultural geographies of mid-twentieth century technology and display James Lyon Fenner BA MA Thesis submitted to the University of Nottingham for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy August 2014 Abstract The British Small Craft display, installed in 1963 as part of the Science Museum’s new Sailing Ships Gallery, comprised of a sequence of twenty showcases containing models of British boats—including fishing boats such as luggers, coracles, and cobles— arranged primarily by geographical region. The brainchild of the Keeper William Thomas O’Dea, the nautical themed gallery was complete with an ocean liner deck and bridge mezzanine central display area. It contained marine engines and navigational equipment in addition to the numerous varieties of international historical ship and boat models. Many of the British Small Craft displays included accessory models and landscape settings, with human figures and painted backdrops. The majority of the models were acquired by the museum during the interwar period, with staff actively pursuing model makers and local experts on information, plans and the miniature recreation of numerous regional boat types. Under the curatorship supervision of Geoffrey Swinford Laird Clowes this culminated in the temporary ‘British Fishing Boats’ Exhibition in the summer of 1936. However the earliest models dated back even further with several originating from the Victorian South Kensington Museum collections, appearing in the International Fisheries Exhibition of 1883. 1 With the closure and removal of the Shipping Gallery in late 2012, the aim of this project is to produce a reflective historical and cultural geographical account of these British Small Craft displays held within the Science Museum.

    The FUNOFFICIAL Newsletter of ACE Western Pennsylvania Vol. 28, No. 2 June 2018 Thunderbolt Turns 50 by Brett Weissbart 2018 is a special year for Kennywood for many reasons: the park is celebrating its 120th anniversary, Thomas Town marks one of the largest investments in decades and perhaps most notable for coaster enthusiasts, Thunderbolt is celebrating its 50th anniversary! Originally designed by John Miller and opened in 1924 as Pippin, the ride reopened in 1968 after receiving a major overhaul by the park’s own Andy Vettel. The longer, faster and wilder ride received many accolades, including being named “the king of Photo by Joel Brewton coasters” by The New York Times and one of the top ten coasters in the country by the Smithsonian. Kennywood is celebrating the anniversary with special pricing, ride marathons and other events throughout the season. CoasterBash! XXIX by Sarah Windisch ACE members in western Pennsylvania and a Fred Ingersoll/Luna Park historical marker, which costs surrounding states converged again in early March around $2,000, so organizers added this to some of the at Salvatore's in the South Hills of Pittsburgh for fundraisers being held during the evening.     Docklands History Group meeting Wednesday 5th February 2009 The Gravesend Waterman’s Skiff By Edward Sargent A visitor to Gravesend in a summer ten years previously would have seen a small fleet of wooden boats moored off the Promenade. These were Gravesend waterman’s skiffs and were owned by the Gravesend Town Regatta Committee. Although none of these boats was then more than fifty years old, their pedigree went back far into the Nineteenth Century. Edward showed a photograph of his grandfather’s ship, the Mount Temple, taken in 1910 in which working skiffs could be seen moored in a similar location. In some accounts in the past, the boats are referred to as wherries rather than skiffs. Notably Bowen writing in the 1930s called them this. Also, a 1935 drawing by FT Waine used this name. In the nineteenth century in a book called Royal River published in 1885 the boats are again called wherries. However, they are called skiffs in Gravesend now including by the Grandson of the last builder. Edward had not been able to establish with any certainty the origin of the Gravesend skiff as the principal working boat of the local watermen. However, it is clear from early illustrations that a form of wherry similar to that used in the upper parts of the Thames was in use in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In the EW Cooke 1831 book of plates of Shipping and Craft there are two plates with collections of small boats. One of these shows a sailing skiff. This has seven planks a defining feature of the Gravesend skiff.

This guide provides an overview of services and facilities available for Guests with disabilities who are visiting Elitch Gardens. We are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all Guests. This guide is intended to supplement the Elitch Gardens Park Map and Guide, which contains additional park information and an entertainment schedule. This guide also lists all of the rides, shows, and Guest assistance areas and includes symbols that will help you find these areas on the park map. Many theme park rides incorporate safety systems designed by the manufacturer to accommodate people of average physical stature and body proportion. These systems may place restrictions on the ability of an individual to safely experience the ride. Guests of exceptional proportions, Guests who have or have had health concerns with their heart, back or neck, expectant mothers, people who have had recent surgery, people with casts, braces, or restrictive devices, may not be safely accommodated by these systems. For example, height requirements are based on the size needed for restraint devices to function properly and the level of developmental maturity usually associated with a certain height. Elitch Garden’s Ride Admission Policy has been developed based on the recommendations of the manufacturer, our past experience and our evaluation of each ride using our knowledge of the ride in both normal and emergency operating conditions. Our prime consideration is the ability of each person to endure the dynamics of a ride without risk of injury to that person or other riders.
