ARCHERY ASSOCIATION OF INDIA R E P O R T OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL for the period 1st July 2009 to 30th April, 2010 Dear Members of the Archery Family I am greatly honoured to welcome you all at the Annual General Council Meeting of Archery Association of India today, 22nd May 2010. It is my humble privilege and pleasure to present my report before the General body of Arch- ery Association of India highlighting the achievements and activities of the Association during the period from April 2009 to April, 2010. The numerous activities that were undertaken by the Association during the period are a clear testimony of the extent to which the plan objectives have been realized. The preceding year witnessed an intensification of AAI activities at all levels. I wish to place my special thanks and gratitude to SAHARA India Pariwar who came forward to join hands with Archery Association of India and gave away cash incentives of Rs.30 lakhs to achievers and promisers. This happens probably for the first time in the history of Indian Spors. While extending my good wishes for fruitful deliberations in the Annual General Meeting, I wish to put down the key achievement of Indian archery :- • India ranked 2nd as Nation in FITA ranking based on World Cup-2009 performance. • Indian Recurve Men team is still sustaining its 2nd position in overall world ranking. • Jayant Talukdar got 1st rank in World Cup-2009 and 4th position in world ranking. • Atanu Das and Seema Verma secured berth for Youth Olympic Games- Singapore. • Deepika Kumari emerges as a “World Champion” in Recurve Cadet Girls Category in Youth World Championship in USA.

They have won 12 medals over the years – 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals in athletics, powerlifting and swimming events. Commonwealth Games displayed the latent Sporty Spirits of the country, when people who could get hold of the tickets turned out in large numbers to cheer for the sports. It certainly augurs well for the business opportunity for Sports in India. If given necessary impetus and good sports product are made available to public in the form of Zonal, Regional and National Sports Leagues, Championship and Sports Festivals, it certainly will have a mass appeal for public and money appeal for marketers. Research have proved that happy people during sports events are more receptive to marketing messages and are more likely to develop positive opinion about various products. ARCHERY ASSOCIATION OF INDIA R E P O R T OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL for the period 1st May, 2010 to 31st August, 2011 Dear Members of the Archery Family It is my proud privilege and pleasure to place this Secretary General’s Report before AAI General Council which provides with an overview of the achievements and activities of the Association during the intervening phase from May, 2010 to August, 2011. First of all, I would like to mention that a very successful Archery event that was conducted during the Commonwealth Games. India and England demonstrated their dominance in both the Recurve and Compound events. This was the first multi-sports games where all five continents won medals in Archery. The house-full spectators’ stand at the Yamuna Sports Complex has left an unforgettable mark in the minds of participants, media and FITA. We have had many important events since our last meeting including two multisport events with Archery as part of their programme. Another busy period ended and we ought to be pleased with the glorious outcome in terms of achievements earned by our archers. Besides winning 3 Gold, 1 Silver, 4 Bronze in 2010-Commonwealth Games-Delhi, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze in 2010-Asian Games-Ghanzhou, 1 Silver in World Championship-Torino, 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze Meals in Youth World-Legnica and 2 Gold, 9 Silver, 3 Bronze in World Cups, Indian archers won a haul of 20 Gold, 21 Silver and 16 Bronze Medals in international competitions during this period. There has been an obvious growth of activities in the AAI over the past 5 years.

For The Glory Of Sport The story of the Commonwealth Games from 1930 to 2014 By Bob Phillips Author€s Note The Commonwealth Games have always been particularly close to my heart in a lifetime of a passionate interest in sport. I saw them for the first time as a teenage fan in Cardiff in 1958 € when they were still known as the British Empire and Commonwealth Games € and was captivated then by the marvellous deeds of the athletes on a cinder track fitted tightly round the hallowed turf of the celebrated Arms Park rugby-football ground. Lithe and lightning-fast sprinters from the Caribbean islands, rugged middle-distance and long-distance runners from Australia and New Zealand, a gloriously fluent quarter-miler from India, jumpers and throwers from what then seemed such exotic far-flung corners of the globe as Fiji, North Borneo and Singapore € it was all intensely exciting and laid the foundations for what would be for me many more such delightful adventures to come as a professional journalist and broadcaster. Even so, there were only 35 countries competing at those Games of more than half-a-century ago. In Glasgow this year there will be twice that number. The Games have grown out of all recognition, but in the process of so doing they have managed to maintain an intimacy € even a coziness, if you like € which so many of the other forms of international sport have long since shunned in the relentless interests of commercialism. This is a favoured theme of mine which you will find recurring throughout this history of the Commonwealth Games € call me old-fashioned, if you wish, but there are inherent qualities of fair play, of sportsmanship, of comradely competition among members of a vastly extended but affectionate family, which have survived over more than 80 years at these Games, though not entirely unscathed, and they are not widely in evidence elsewhere these days.
