Key accomplishments to date:

Added staff – 13 positions to be added overall.

Developed SRO and Security Training Curriculum which was approved by the MD Police Training and Standards Commission.

Created the Model Policy for local assessment teams.

Gathered data from all 24 local school systems regarding what high schools have SRO’s or adequate coverage.

Identified Health Coordinator and School Safety Coordinator for each school system.

Approved distribution allocation for the 24 local school systems based on enrollment with a $200,000 base.

Approved Hate Crimes Grant Program for Schools and Child Care Centers and notice of funding availability.

Facilitated implementation of a Statewide crisis tip line that will be operated by MEMA.

MARYLAND STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 25 SHAPING A SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT Interagency Commission on School Construction (IAC)

The Interagency Commission is an independent commission that functions within the Maryland State Department of Education. It will develop and approve policies, procedures, and regulations on State school construction allocations to local jurisdictions in an independent and merit-based manner.

Key accomplishments to date:

Adoption of Sufficiency Standards, which will be utilized as the basis for a school facilities assessment to identify the condition of every school facility in the State of Maryland.

Released the application for round one of funding to local school systems for $10 million of the funding allocated in the School Safety Grant Program.

Distributed a survey to local school systems to ascertain the level of facility needs in different areas of the State.

Identified members for the Workgroup on Educational Specifications and Assessment of School Facilities.
