See the exclusive announcement, interview and premiere of “Six Blocks Away” at Rolling Stone Country. Produced by Williams and Tom Overby, This Sweet Old World features fresh updated interpretations of songs such as “Prove My Love”, “Sidewalks of the City”, “Memphis Pearl” and “Lines Around Your Eyes”. With her deeply soulful voice and wisdom gained over the last 25 years, Williams breathes new life into classics “Pineola”, “Sweet Old World”, “Something About What Happens When We Talk”, “Little Angel, Little Brother” and Nick Drake’s “Which Will”. The third track on the 1992’s Sweet Old World, “He Never Got Enough Love” is transformed with additional verses, new sound and new title, “Drivin’ Down A Dead End Street”, which was the song’s original title. Williams changed it upon the realization that Bob Dylan had a current album with a similar name. The arrangements on This Sweet Old World are tighter and rawer than the original and feature Williams’ fantastic touring/studio band: guitarist Stuart Mathis, bassist David Sutton, and drummer Butch Norton. Guitarist Greg Leisz, who actually participated in the early sessions for the 1992 album, adds his masterful playing to the new recordings. -

She is joined by special guest Bill Frisell—one of the leading guitarists in jazz—for an exciting collaboration that features on her upcoming album The Ghosts of Highway 20. Alt-folk singer-songwriter Sean Rowe will open the evening, illuminating his eclectic influences with a remarkable voice . Lucinda Williams has been maneuvering down a path all her own for more than three decades now. After several years of playing the hardscrabble clubs of her adopted state of Texas, she gained a solid enough footing to record her self-titled album that would later become a touchstone for the Americana movement. But she didn’t sit still after that. For much of the next decade, Williams paid her dues and built up a fan base the hard way: winning hearts show by show, not overnight. -

For immediate release !15 July, 2014 Music is the WORD - Rock Musician Kristin Hersh Headlines !Christchurch Literary Festival Seminal indie-rock musician Kristin Hersh is coming to New Zealand to share her music and prose !at the WORD Christchurch Writers & Readers Festival, presented in association with The Press. Hersh will join literary heavyweights such as Eleanor Catton, Ruth Reichl and Meg Wolitzer at the multi-day festival, which runs from 27—31 August. She will perform her solo show WORDS + MUSIC on 30 August at the magnificent Transitional Cathedral and will make several other !appearances throughout the festival. WORD Christchurch’s Literary Director Rachael King, herself an ex-bass player with several Flying !Nun bands, has been a fan since she was 17. “I am thrilled to bring Kristin to Christchurch to help us redefine the parameters of what a literary festival can be. I had recently read her brilliant memoir, and saw that she was actively touring overseas, promoting both her music and her book. So I sent an invitation to New Zealand and !was overjoyed when she accepted.” In 1986, Throwing Muses was the first American band signed to the legendary label 4AD, which went on to acquire the Muses’ contemporaries, the Pixies and the Breeders. Since then, Hersh has forged a solo career, beginning with 1994’s Hips and Makers, formed 50 Foot Wave, and continued to play with the Throwing Muses; their latest album, Purgatory/Paradise, is !accompanied by a book of photos, essays, stories and lyrics. Hersh’s memoir Paradoxical Undressing tells the remarkable story of a year in her life when she was 17, playing in Throwing Muses, and was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. -

For several years, we’ve presented pieces commissioned by the best modern composers for our talented musicians, continuing the BPO’s tradition of contributing to classical music’s future. In 1946, the BPO made the premiere recording of the Shostakovich Leningrad Symphony. Music director Lukas Foss was also a renowned composer who regularly programmed world premieres of the works of himself and his contemporaries. -

Its legacy will never disappear, and it will always be a great influence for new artists but is important to find out the reasons why it has become what it is in now, and what is the expected future for the genre. This project is going to be focused on the analysis of some im- portant business aspects related with rock music and its de- cline, if exists. The collapse of Gibson guitars will be analyzed, because if rock music is in decline, then the collapse of Gibson is a good evidence of this. Also, the performance of independ- ent and major record labels through history will be analyzed to understand better the health state of the genre. The same with music festivals that today seem to be increasing their popularity at the expense of smaller types of live-music events.
