The three-day festival is set to take place August 24-26 at MAPFRE Stadium. Breakaway Columbus carefully explores the intersection of hip-hop and electronic music resulting in a supremely curated lineup that includes some of the most impressive names in the industry with pop-sensations and electronic music favorites like Halsey, Khalid to headline and Quinn XCII, Gryffin, Chris Lake, Drezo, London On Da Track, London Richards, GG Magree, and Charlotte Lawrence taking the stage on Friday. Going into day two, Odesza and Kaskade will be headlining Saturday, with Rich the Kid, Kayzo, Dombresky, Ekali, Jack Harlow, Phantoms, Smokepurpp, GASHI, Yung Pinch, and Loud Luxury to precede. Closing out the weekend will be world-renowned rap-trio Migos with Flosstradamus, Flatbush Zombies, Jaden Smith, Jai Wolf, Grey, Shoreline Mafia, Nessly, Elohim, Shallou, Blaise Moore, Livvia, and Rarri set to perform on Sunday. In addition to the daily lineups, PSG has also announced the addition of some of the most talented artists in the area. Performing Friday will be Sar3hob, The Emperor Chaz, Uhziz, Effee, and Tae and The Waves; Blush, MOUF Worldwide, Vaance, Emogee, KMB, Cryztal Gridz, and Wrex on Saturday; and Giovanny, Jayswifa, iB-Rease, The Harley Boys, and Lil Loski on Sunday. “We feel as if this is the most diverse and talented group of regional and local acts that we’ve had a chance to shed light on this year. We are really looking forward to giving these artists a chance to share the stage with some of the world’s hottest acts,” Artist Relations Coordinator Tyler Blind said. Breakaway Columbus will continue its mission to bring top-notch lineups and next level production to Columbus with its well-thought-out-roster of chart-topping artists. Electropop star and iHeartRadio’s 2018 Female Artist of the Year Halsey will close out the first night of the festival. After being nominated at the 2017 Grammys for her collab “Closer” with The Chainsmokers, the multi-platinum pop maverick has seen huge success as a standalone artist this year with her first album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom already topping the US Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100. Electric music titans and synth-pop wizards Odesza will headline the electronic portion of the bill on Saturday night. With an impressive 2017, Odesza was nominated for not one but two Grammys for the “Best Dance Recording” with Line Of Sight and for “Best Dance/Electronic Album” with “A Moment Apart”. Odesza is arguably the most sought out electronic festival headliner for 2018. Also bringing world-class talent to Columbus is hip-hop’s breakout trio Migos who will close out the festival on Sunday. Ending 2017 as BET’s “Best Group” and “Best Collaboration” for Bad and Boujee ft. Lil Uzi Vert, Migos has already taken 2018 by storm with the drop of their studio album “Culture II” and three Billboard Music Award nominations including Best Duo, Top Rap Artist, and Top Rap Album. On top of that, Breakaway Music Festival is bringing out special guests Khalid on Friday and Kaskade on Saturday. At just 19 years old, Khalid received five different Grammy nominations including “Best New Artist”, “Song of the Year” and “Best Music Video” for his feature on 1-800-273-8255, “Best R&B Song” for Location, and “Best Urban Contemporary Album” for his debut studio album American Teen. Electronic music veteran Kaskade has been one of the biggest names in EDM for the last decade, voted “America’s Best DJ” twice by DJ Times and six separate Grammy nominations with tracks like Runaway (U&I) (Kaskade Remix) and Only. Coming in 2018, Breakaway Music Festival will not only return to Columbus but it will also touch down in Grand Rapids’ Belknap Park Aug. 24-25, Charlotte’s AvidXchange Music Factory Oct. 12-13, will expand to Nashville’s Bicentennial Capitol Mall Oct. 5-6, and just took place in Dallas’ Toyota Music Factory in April. MAPFRE Stadium Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Web MAPFRE Stadium (pronounced “MAH-fray" Stadium) is the first ever soccer-specific stadium in Major League Soccer. It opened its doors on May 15, 1999 to a sellout crowd for a match against the New England Revolution and in 2016 Columbus Crew SC set single-season MAPFRE Stadium records for sellouts and total attendance. MAPFRE Stadium has hosted numerous national and international events: 10 U.S. Soccer FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – specifically four “Dos a Cero” victories for the U.S. over Mexico (2001, 2005, 2009, 2013) – FIFA Women's World Cup matches, the 2001 MLS Cup, the 2015 MLS Cup and two MLS All-Star Games. MAPFRE Stadium is also the host, through 2020, of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s (OHSAA) state championship matches for boys’ and girls’ soccer. Beyond major sporting events, the venue continues to host numerous concerts and also serves as the proud home of the annual three-day festival “Rock on the Range”, which returned for the 11th installment in 2017. The venue was named the world's most influential stadium of the decade by Stadia Magazine in 2010, and has won a Sports Turf Managers Association Field of the Year Award in 2010, 2013 and 2015. In 2008, the venue added a permanent stage in the North End, allowing for up to 35,000 fans to take in concerts and other marquee events. MAPFRE Stadium received its current name in a historic partnership announced in 2015. www.MAPFREStadium.com. ### Media Contact: Sheila Hunt Rossiter Rossiter Marketing and Public Relations 614-382-2557 rossitermarketing.com.

A former member of SpaceGhostPurrp's Raider Klan , Denzel Curry is one of the precursors of the new generation of electro coming out of Florida. Now joined by such wild men as Smokepurrp, Ski Mask Da Slump God or the late XXXTentacion, Denzel has created a complex mix, which has been much-covered by his peers. To sum it up, his music is a mixture of very technical rap in the tradition of Memphis and the Three 6 Mafia and a rather more elevated psychedelic tendency taken from Outkast and the Dungeon Family. A pure product of the SoundCloud generation, he made waves with Nostalgic 64 (2013) and then Imperial (2016). At the age of just 23, Denzel Curry shows a disarming maturity and an unflagging versatility on TA13oo , his most ambitious album to date. TA13OO. The South Florida rapper carves out his own lane within the genre known as SoundCloud rap, displaying considerable versatility as he channels the pain and confusion of youth. Featured Tracks: In the chaotic arena that is SoundCloud rap, Denzel Curry has etched out his own distinct realm. Presumably he doesn’t mind being tagged as a SoundCloud rapper, as murky and hard to define as that term is. It was just in May that Curry went to the mattresses to uphold his version of the genre’s history, using Twitter and interviews to torpedo Smokepurpp’s claim to have fathered the movement.

  • Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: an Analysis Into Graphic Design's
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

Since he started making music in his dorm room three years ago, Wavewalk has been working hard to create electronic music that evokes emotions and truly captures the story he is trying to tell. The project name comes from the current room number of his residence in Spain, which is where most of his ideas have stemmed from throughout this academic year. By capturing sounds and feelings that he has experienced in this apartment, Wavewalk will create a cohesive body of work accompanied by a live performance video and branding across social media and a new website. 2 Acknowledgments Throughout this entire year, I met, learned from, and worked with so many incredible people. For Room 90 in particular there are several folks I’d like to thank that made the project possible and that helped me along the way.
