Soundtrack, Live At Carnegie Hall, No Direction Home - A Film By Martin Scorsese (DVD), The Bob Dylan Scrapbook: 1956-1966, The Concert For Bangla Desh (DVD), Festival (DVD) And the Never-Ending Tour kept rolling on. Bob Dylan played 112 concerts in US and Europe in 2005. 2 2005 AT A GLANCE 3 THE 2005 CALENDAR 4 February Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson win the award for Most Creative Tour Package at the annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards in the Wiltern LG Theatre, Los Angeles. 7 March This year’s touring starts with a show in the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, Washington.     BOB DYLAN / THE BAND (a collectors guide to the 74 Tour) BOB DYLAN / THE BAND - a collectors guide to the 74 Tour “There are two problems with the 1974 tour: the tapes are crap and Dylan‟s performances are crap.” – C. Heylin, Telegraph 32 pg 86. Introduction This booklet / File (like the anonymous companion volume “Songs of the Underground” for RTR) is intended to document the audio resources available to collectors concerning the 1974 tour with the Band. It is intended to supplement and possibly correct the three major resources available to collectors (Krogsgaard, Dundas & Olof‟s files). Several PA tapes have emerged since Krogsgaard was last updated, and (I believe) there are errors in Dundas (concerning the PA tapes from 11 Feb 1974) that I wished to address. Additionally, none of these references (except for one full listing in Krogsgaard) include the Band sets. While details are difficult to obtain, I have included details of about three- quarters of the Band sets. It is hoped that readers on the web may contribute more information. I believe that the Band was a significant contributor to the 1974 Tour and should be included in any 1974 Tour documentation. I have also identified the sources for the Vinyl and CD bootlegs, where my resources allowed. Often the attributions on Bootlegs are misleading, incomplete or wrong. As an example „Before and After the Flood‟ claims to be from MSG NYC 30.1.1974 when it is actually a combination of the PA tapes from 31.1.74 (evening) and 11.2.74 (evening).

    Woody Guthrie Annual, 4 (2018): Carney, “With Electric Breath” “With Electric Breath”: Bob Dylan and the Reimagining of Woody Guthrie (January 1968) Court Carney In 1956, police in New Jersey apprehended Woody Guthrie on the presumption of vagrancy. Then in his mid-40s, Guthrie would spend the next (and last) eleven years of his life in various hospitals: Greystone Park in New Jersey, Brooklyn State Hospital, and, finally, the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, where he died. Woody suffered since the late 1940s when the symptoms of Huntington’s disease first appeared—symptoms that were often confused with alcoholism or mental instability. As Guthrie disappeared from public view in the late 1950s, 1,300 miles away, Bob Dylan was in Hibbing, Minnesota, learning to play doo-wop and Little Richard covers. 1 Young Dylan was about to have his career path illuminated after attending one of Buddy Holly’s final shows. By the time Dylan reached New York in 1961, heavily under the influence of Woody’s music, Guthrie had been hospitalized for almost five years and with his motor skills greatly deteriorated. This meeting between the still stylistically unformed Dylan and Woody—far removed from his 1940s heyday—had the makings of myth, regardless of the blurred details. Whatever transpired between them, the pilgrimage to Woody transfixed Dylan, and the young Minnesotan would go on to model his early career on the elder songwriter’s legacy. More than any other of Woody’s acolytes, Dylan grasped the totality of Guthrie’s vision. Beyond mimicry (and Dylan carefully emulated Woody’s accent, mannerisms, and poses), Dylan almost preternaturally understood the larger implication of Guthrie in ways that eluded other singers and writers at the time.2 As his career took off, however, Dylan began to slough off the more obvious Guthrieisms as he moved towards his electric-charged poetry of 1965-1966.

Today, after thirty years of recording, the number of devoted Dylan disciples is reduced but he is still very much present on the rock scene. His political influence having been considerable, his policy views deserve scrutiny. My thesis is that Dylan's foreign policy views are best characterized as "isolationist." More specifically: Dylan's foreign policy message is what so-called progressive isolationists from the Midwest would have advocated, had they been transferred into the United States of the 1960s or later.

    BOB ENNOBLED BOB DYLAN AND THE NOBEL PRIZE I am a Dylan fan and I know many of his songs by heart. I have seen him perform and have heard him mangle his own work in Birmingham, England, and then delight the Hammersmith Odeon. I have watched him forget some of the words to ‘Mr Tambourine Man’ in the Leisure Centre at Bournemouth. Indeed, since about 1963 and The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan I have spent many leisure hours and vital pounds, first of pocket money and then of earned income, keeping up with much of Dylan’s copious output. I’ve even tried to read his ‘novel’ Tarantula. While I am aware of his vocal and musical limitations and the way he can move from brilliant to dire, I love some of his songs, his phrasing and intonation this side of idolatry and sometimes beyond. I think the first four Dylan tracks I bought were on an 1963 EP called Dylan (Extended Play: remember those?) which rotated on the turntable at 45 rpm as his astonishing twenty-one-year old-voice sang: ‘Don’t Think Twice, it’s alright’, ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’, ‘When the Ship Comes in’ and then was it ‘Corinna, Corinna’? His way with song words has long held my qualified admiration and I enjoyed reading his Chronicles (Volume One) when they came out in 2004. For me, even with Dylan at his uneven best, it’s the words that matter most and the way he delivers them in the best of his supremely memorable songs. If I had to name my current top ten of his tracks, chosen with particular attention to the words and to do so rapidly from memory, I’d probably go for the following: ‘Boots

    Freewheelin-on-line Take Twenty One Freewheelin’ 219 This month’s cover could be the ultimate statement on the art of minimalism. Or, as Chris Cooper suggests, it could be a picture of Dylan in a snowstorm. Actually it’s neither of these. In fact, this month’s cover is meant to be a visual representation of silence which I suppose is quite natural when you consider that the journal itself concerns the comings and goings of an artist who makes a lot of noise. Before you accuse me of being a pretentious git let me plead for your sympathy and say that it wasn’t meant to be this way. I had planned a festive cover with bangles, baubles, beads and lots of angles. But then one foggy November eve some malicious spam spreader cast his spell my way and sent me an email, purporting to be from Paypal, inviting me to open an attachment. Dutifully, ignorantly and very stupidly I opened the attachment whereupon some worm leapfrogged my internet security system and crashed my pc. I tried to boot, boot boot the machine into life which only made matters worse. So I was left with no hardware, no software, no email facility and, worst of all, no access to Expecting Rain. Total silence on all fronts. I am now waiting for Santa Baby to hurry down the chimney with a brand new pc packed tight with some massive gigs and other things. Yet all I really wanna do is plug in a machine that works. So that I can hear that Windows jingle.

    Harvest of sunshine Alison Morris Lifestyles Editor unflowers are not a typical crop growing in Western Oklahoma but Mark and Vonda Graf of Corn are on their second year of growing and harvesting sunflowers. S Graf said they plant the sunflowers around the first of May depending on soil temperatures and they are ready to harvest towards the end of August or beginning of September. When they are ready to harvest the flowers will be black and dry. Graf uses an ‘all crop head’ on his combine to harvest the flowers. He said the head sandwiches the flowers in-between a set of belts before cutting the flowers. This allows him to capture almost every flower head. Graf then stores the sunflowers in bins until he can deliver them to Jettco Seed in Binger to be processed.
