New York, NY (April 26, 2016) – Producer Daniel Nardicio – in association with Feinstein’s at the Nikko – will present the eclectic and electric Tony Award-winning performer ALAN CUMMING at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre on Thursday, June 30 at 8 p.m. Cumming’s current national concert tour celebrates his acclaimed new album Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs from Yellow Sound Label. When Cumming performed this show at the album launch event at Carnegie Hall in February, Billboard called the evening “absolutely enchanting. The androgynous imp is both quiet and uproarious, adorable and sensual, flippant and emotional, otherworldly and inviting.” Cumming is backed by his longtime musical director Lance Horne on piano, Eleanor Norton on cello, and Chris Jago on drums. Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs premiered in Spring 2015 for a limited run at the iconic supper club Café Carlyle, where it was recorded live. The recording includes his singular interpretations of pop hits (Billy Joel’s “Goodnight Saigon,” Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb,” Rufus Wainwright’s “Dinner at Eight”), musical theater songs (“The Ladies Who Lunch” from Company, “You, You, You” from Kander & Ebb’s The Visit, “If Love Were All” by Noël Coward) and numbers that Cumming has collected from around the world (“Mother Glasgow” from Scotland, “La Complainte de la Butte” from France, “How Do Humans Live” from Germany). Sappy Songs was hailed as “an emotional firestorm, delivered passionately with tremendous theatrical authority” by The New York Times. Alan was lauded for his “wit, whimsy and powerful voice” by People.com, called “wonderfully dreamy” by the New York Post with songs that “ripple with emotion,” according to the New York Daily News. Time Out New York praised Cumming for “putting a completely fresh interpretive spin on familiar songs.” The album is produced by Michael Croiter and Lance Horne, with Daniel Nardicio serving as associate producer. Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs will also be performed in Princeton, NJ (May 13), Port Washington, NY (May 14), Dallas, TX (June 24), Austin, TX (June 25), San Antonio, TX (June 26), Westhampton Beach, NY (July 9), Provincetown, MA (July 16) and Great Barrington, MA (July 18). ALAN CUMMING is an actor and activist beyond eclectic and according to The New York Times “a bawdy countercultural sprite”; Time Magazine named him one of the most fun people in show business; He plays political maverick Eli Gold on CBS’s “The Good Wife,” for which he received Golden Globe, Emmy, SAG and Satellite Award nominations and earlier this year finished his Tony Award-winning role of the Emcee in the Broadway musical Cabaret. Versatile actor Alan Cumming has performed a wide variety of roles on stage, screen, Image courtesy Angela Brinskele. and television. He has earned numerous awards for his acting and also for his support of glbtq causes. The younger son of a forester and a homemaker, Alan Cumming was born January 27, 1965 in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland. He spent his first year in the neighboring town of Dunkeld, where his father worked on a large estate. The family then moved to Fassfern on the west coast of the country, and three years later settled on the east coast, on another estate near Carnoustie. As a child growing up on an isolated estate he lacked playmates--his only sibling was six years older than he--and so he amused himself by acting out stories of his own invention. His cast, he recalled, consisted of "me and my dog. And imaginary others." After graduating from Carnoustie High School, Cumming worked for a year at a publishing company in Dundee, initially in the fiction department and then interviewing bands for a pop culture magazine called TOPS. Cumming then enrolled in the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. While attending the academy Cumming met and married fellow student Hilary Lyon. After graduating in 1985, Cumming and a friend, Forbes Masson, developed a stand-up comedy act that proved extremely popular.
