This stands out as her fifth full-length and first collection of original material since 2013. Get it HERE. Helmed by legendary Academy® Award-winning producer T Bone Burnett, the album boasts a series of fan favorite singles such as “Fire,” “Saint Honesty,” “No Such Thing,” and “Armor”—which Variety dubbed “exuberantly feminist.” Not to mention, she continues to attract widespread acclaim. In an in- depth profile, Los Angeles Times fittingly described the record as “raw” and “stripped down.” She also recently appeared on an episode of Carpool Karaoke alongside none other than Tony® Award winner Ben Platt. Additionally, she just wrapped up a packed mini-tour with sellouts everywhere and hosted a New York Times Talk. Check it out HERE. Amidst the Chaos represents Bareilles at her most exposed, engaging, and enthralling. Intimate piano and poetic lyrics comprise an emotional journey throughout these twelve tracks. “If I Can’t Have You” borders on simmering soul. Elsewhere, “Poetry By Dead Men” evokes the spirit of a literary opus. Everything culminates on the poignant and powerful ballad “A Safe Place To Land” [feat. John Legend], which highlights her range alongside the iconic crooner. This week, Bareilles launches a full-scale television takeover. On Saturday April 6, she takes the stage for a performance on Saturday Night Live followed by Good Morning America April 8, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Late Late Show with James Corden April 10, and The Talk April 12. Be sure to tune in! Sara Bareilles emerges with her most impassioned, inimitable, and important body of work yet Amidst the Chaos. 2018 marked yet another landmark year for Sara. Among numerous accolades, she co-hosted the Tony Awards®, received an Emmy® Award nomination for her role in “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert,” as well as a GRAMMY® Award nomination for the “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert” soundtrack and garnered the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Hal David Starlight Award. She also teamed up with Apple as an executive producer for “Little Voice” a 10-episode series, which she will create the original music for. This continued an impressive run of music and creative projects. 2013’s Blessed Unrest would be nominated as “Album of the Year” at the GRAMMY® Awards. Shortly after, she penned the music for the Broadway hit, Waitress, for which she achieved her first Tony® Award nomination for “Best Score” and a 2017 GRAMMY® nomination for “Best Musical Theater Album.” She also made her Broadway acting debut in 2017 by stepping into the lead role in Waitress. • Welcome to May 27! a Little Light: Daily Musings with Mary
A Little Light: Daily Musings with Mary Sue Welcome to May 27! I know, it’s not Christmas, but I just couldn’t help myself. I woke up very early yesterday; it was too early for my morning walk. I decided to be productive as I waited for the sun to rise, and noticed a shelf needed organized. There in the very back of the shelf was our family’s favorite Christmas movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” I could not resist the urge; I made my coffee and watched this old classic. I was reminded through this touching film, how very “successful” I am. Not for what I have done or do, rather, because I have dear and wonderful friends! Yes, the kind of “stick with you through thick and thin” friends who have seen me through so much of life’s joys and challenges. I decided this week to let these friends know how much their lives have meant to mine. Would you like to join me on this quest of gratitude? I hope you do! Let’s join together and let our friends know how they help in making our lives so very successful! Please see links below to some of my favorite songs about friendship! FACT: According to the National Council for Behavior Health, friendship is key to mental health. It can be hard to talk to family members about mental health. That’s why it is important to have healthy friendships to turn to in times of need. Our friends can be that ear to talk to, shoulder to lean on and nonjudgmental perspective that we need.

  • AS YOU LIKE IT, the First Production of Our 50Th Anniversary Season, and the First Show in Our Shakespearean Act
Welcome It is my pleasure to welcome you to AS YOU LIKE IT, the first production of our 50th anniversary season, and the first show in our Shakespearean act. Shakespeare’s plays have been a cornerstone of our work at CSC, and his writing continues to reflect and refract our triumphs and trials as individuals and collectively as a society. We inevitability turn to Shakespeare to express our despair, bewilderment, and delight. So, what better place to start our anniversary year than with the contemplative search for self and belonging in As You Like It. At the heart of this beautiful play is a speech that so perfectly encapsulates our mortality. All the world’s a stage, and we go through so many changes as we make our exits and our entrances. You will have noticed many changes for CSC. We have a new look, new membership opportunities, and are programming in a new way with more productions and a season that splits into what we have called “acts.” Each act focuses either on a playwright or on an era of work. It seemed appropriate to inaugurate this with a mini-season of Shakespeare, which continues with Fiasco Theater's TWELFTH NIGHT. Then there is Act II: Americans dedicated to work by American playwrights Terrence McNally (FIRE AND AIR) and Tennessee Williams (SUMMER AND SMOKE); very little of our repertoire has focused on classics written by Americans. This act also premieres a new play by Terrence McNally, as I feel that the word classic can also encapsulate the “bigger idea” and need not always be the work of a writer from the past.

www.theatreguide.com.au Supporting live theatre in South Australia PO Box 738 [email protected] MODBURY SA 5092 ABN : 93 297 960 525 GRAVITY – THE SONGS OF SARA BAREILLES Nexus Arts Until 15 Mar 2020 Review by Sarah Westgarth It’s hard to go wrong with the works of Sara Bareilles. She is the singer-songwriting talent of hits such as “Love Song” and “Brave”, the composer behind the Broadway smash “Waitress”, and in 2018, delivered a critically acclaimed performance as Mary Magdalene in NBC’s live concert production of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” She’s been nominated for Grammys, Tonys, and Emmys, and proven herself time and again to be a versatile and highly accomplished writer and performer. Her music is more than worthy of a cabaret show dedicated to her, and “Gravity”, serves as a joyful celebration of her work. Clearly a passion project of lead singers Kim Spargo and Kate Lewis, the two women lead their band, Collected Musicians, and supporting vocalists Voice of Transition, through some of Bareilles’ biggest and best songs. While not always polished, the show is loaded with enough charm and talent to leave the audience in high spirits. The vocal talent of Spargo and Lewis is undeniable, especially when singing songs that are well suited for their range and individual styles. There are the occasional forgotten lyrics, a missed note, and moments that aren’t quite nailed, but they are few, and easily outnumbered by the numbers where everything works beautifully. Lewis’s powerful belt is something extraordinary, and used to great, soulful effect throughout the show.

  • Probation Officers: the Next Generation David Louis Forbes
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Tavistock and Portman E-Prints Online Probation Officers: The Next Generation David Louis Forbes A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the University of East London in collaboration with the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust for the Professional Doctorate in Social Work. May 2011 i Abstract This study is an investigation into the new world of probation. For the past two decades the Probation Service has struggled to survive in a highly ambivalent social and political climate. During this period, the training of probation officers has separated from social work training and the service has adopted a more punishment-focused, coercive and managerialist stance in its work with offenders. Using a mixed methods approach that includes semi-structured interviews and case discussions, my research focuses on a sample of recently qualified probation officers with a view to exploring their experiences and perceptions of their working lives, and to construct a picture of the occupation from a newcomer perspective. In particular, given the shift in the ideological framework of the service, I wished to learn about the professional identity of the generation of probation officers who are now entering the service through an examination of their motivation and practices. Despite pressure to eradicate the welfare-oriented ethos of the service, a significant and unexpected discovery arising from my research has been the resilience of traditional values that are brought to the service in the aspirations and habitus of newcomers. My findings are contextualised in relation to the criminal justice system, the historical development of the probation service, the status of probation as a profession and my own ‘insider’ experience.
