Hollywood
The holidays are over and everyone is back to sewing. The Hollywood group made an eye- glass case in January and we are currently working on a hobo purse/tote project using fabric tubes made from 2-1/2" strips. It re- quires a lot of stitching time but I find it re- laxing and the outcome should be pretty!

Gloria presented a purse project at our January meeting. She explained how to replace a purse bottom with a boxed bot- tom for those of us who have trouble with inserting a bag bottom neatly.

In February, Susan Reney presented a wonderful display of what to do or not do with clear Contac paper. She started by covering a map with Contac and then making it into a pocket to put on a large tote bag, She branched out from there and tried Contac paper on fabrics.

North Broward
The North Broward Neighborhood Group will be changing our meeting venue starting in April. The permanent location will be announced in March.
Until then, we have been busy planning many sewing projects for the coming months, including a new charity sewing project. Our members are very interested in learning new techniques for sewing apparel, quilting, and household items. We have sew-a-longs, as well as, demos planned for upcoming meetings, and we welcome any ASG members at any time.

Port St. Lucie
We started the year with Dianne Dixon-Brown showing us how to make a kitchen boa towel with fabric and a hand towel. Our meeting in February was cancelled due to the quilt show being held at the Civic Center. March had Diane Nathans teaching us how to make string quilt blocks. There will be no meeting in April as our 1st annual South Florida sewing retreat happens on our meeting day. May is charity sewing with Susan Wise instructing us in making walker/chair caddies, which we will donate to a veterans group.

Our January meeting was buzzing with fitting tips and pattern adjustments. Several members had a top pattern that they wanted to have fit. Some had muslins of their top. Everyone was excited about the project and went home eager to start their top. In February three members returned with tops in various stages of completion in the fashion fabric or fitted muslins ready to sewn into fashion fabric.

For our February meeting we partici- a ed i a ee e d af i g e i . I conducted a presentation on drafting a sleeve to fit your armscye providing the blouse armhole has already been fitted.
The procedure requires only three measurements: overarm length from shoulder crease to wrist, underarm length to wrist and bicep circumfer- ence. Using these measurements and a few calculations you got a drawing that looked remarkable like a sleeve pattern.
Another way to ensure you get your sleeve and bodice armhole to fit right every time is to make a template of the bodice armhole and the sleeve that fits into it. Using a file folder, trace the outside shape of the bodice armhole making sure to mark the shoulder seamline and the underarm seamline. I usually make the template about 2 inches wide and I make a separate one for the front and back.
Also, make a sleeve template of the capline making sure to mark the shoul- der, underarm and notches. When you Top o are using your own drafted sleeve the bo om: Chris and notch placement is generally at the Lisbe h; point where the underarm line begins Rosanne; to curve upward to the capline. The and template for the sleeve is generally the Ani a and Ann. sleeve down to the bicep line.
If it is necessary to adjust your pattern for style make sure not to disturb the capline because the sleeve will no long- er fit into the armscye. Rosanne Costa
