SULLINGER PURSUES OSU REPEAT FOR NAISMITH MEN’S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE YEAR; FREDETTE, SMITH AND WALKER SEEK TO SPOIL Fans Will Have an Opportunity to Vote for the Winner Using Their AT&T Phone ATLANTA (March 20, 2011) – With Freshman standout Jared Sullinger looking to follow in the footsteps of 2010 winner Evan Turner, The Ohio State University is hoping to produce the first back-to- back Naismith Men’s College Players of the year since Duke’s Shane Battier and Jason Williams won the award in 2001 and 2002, respectively. Sullinger, along with Jimmer Fredette (BYU), Nolan Smith (Duke) and Kemba Walker (UConn) were named finalists for the 2011 Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year Award presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. “The voters have an especially tough choice in selecting the Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year this year and have to choose between the best players on the best teams or the players who carried their teams on their backs,” said Atlanta Tipoff Club Executive Director Eric Oberman, “We wish them all luck in the upcoming NCAA tournament and will be looking for the final rallies in their campaign to win the most prestigious award in college basketball – the Naismith Trophy.” The finalists were voted on by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s National Voting Academy, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country. The academy based its criteria on player performances this season. The vote was tabulated and certified by the accounting firm of Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP.

March 2020 The Hawk Way Riverside Hawks Newsletter ...the court having fun with his teammates. From the east coast to the west, the team traveled the country growing closer to each other and learning about each new destination they visited. Speaking highly of their Oregon trip for the Adidas Gauntlet tournament, Sean and teammates tried familiar foods with west coast twists citing specialty donuts as a major highlight. From racking up points in the low block to crunching numbers non-stop, Sean’s drive on the court helps him perform in the classroom. Having developed a fondness for mathematics and problem-solving, our Hawk of the Month has preliminarily set his sights on prestigious institutions such as the University of Connecticut and Duke University. On a trip to UConn, Sean and a few of his teammates attended the university’s opening ceremonies, were impressed by the school’s academic rigors, and took a moment to pay homage to Kemba Walker’s iconic step back jumper in the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden. With a laser-focus on his goals, Sean has taken full advantage of the tutors made available by the Riverside Hawks and the SuccessMaker program. Developing a close relationship with his tutor and committing himself to academics has made all the difference in maintaining a consistent spot on the honor roll. Sean and his tutor often have discussions about life before they hit the books which has created a great environment to be present, learn, and then lock in for a tough practice afterwards. As a student-athlete with a demonstrated history of success, what was immediately evident in Sean was his proclivity for numbers and basketball.

Page 1 of 2 Utah Jazz draft Ex-CU Buff Alec Burks Guard taken 12th to end up a lottery pick By Ryan Thorburn Camera Sports Writer Boulder Daily Camera Posted:06/23/2011 06:57:18 PM MDT Alec Burks doesn't need 140 characters to describe the journey. Wheels up. ... Milwaukee. ... Tired. ... Sacramento. ... Airport life. ... Charlotte. ... Dummy tired. ... Phoenix. ... Thankful for another day. These are some of the simple messages the former Colorado guard sent via Twitter to keep his followers up to date with the journey from Colorado to the NBA. After finishing the spring semester at CU in May, Burks worked out for seven different teams. The Utah Jazz, the last team Burks auditioned for, selected the 6-foot-6 shooting guard with the No. 12 pick. Hoops dream realized. "It was exciting," Burks said during a teleconference from the the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. not long after shaking NBA commissioner David Stern's hand and posing for photos in a new three-piece suit and Jazz cap. "I'm glad they picked me." A lot of draftniks predicted Jimmer Fredette and the Jazz would make beautiful music together, but the BYU star was taken by Milwaukee at No. 10 -- the frequently forecasted landing spot for Burks -- and then traded to Sacramento. "I don't really believe in the mock drafts," Burks said. "They don't really know what's going to happen. I'm just glad to be in the lottery." Burks, who doesn't turn 20 until next month, agonized over the decision whether to remain in college or turn professional throughout a dazzling sophomore season in Boulder.

  • Joey Eovaldi Syracuse University Analysis of Franchise Valuation The
Joey Eovaldi Syracuse University Analysis of Franchise Valuation The Boston Celtics Franchise is currently valued at 3.1 billion dollars, as of February 2020. In this section, we are going to evaluate what that valuation means and how it has recently changed, due to certain factors. The Boston Celtics were formed on June 6, 1946 by the Boston Garden-Arena corporation president, Walter A. Brown. They were originally a team in the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and became a part of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1949. The Boston Celtics were most recently bought in 2002 for $360 million by Wycliffe Grousbeck, Robert Epstein, Irving Grousbeck, Stephen Pagliuca (Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C.). With inflation, that is about equal to $523.5 million today. So, in retrospect, that was a great purchase in 2002 and it holds true today. The Boston Celtics were bought for about six times less than they are worth today, even with inflation accounted for. According to Forbes, the Celtics are ranked fifth in team value in the NBA, behind the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and Chicago Bulls. After that, there is about a half billion dollar drop-off to the sixth team, the Los Angeles Clippers at $2.6 billion. It’s worth noting that both Golden State and Boston are the only two franchises valued in the top ten in the NBA that are not ranked in the top ten most populated metropolitan areas in Canada and the United States of America. San Francisco and Boston both have a population of a little over 4.5 million, where New York has a population of over 20 million.

DUKE UNIVERSITY LEADS A DIVERSE PACK ON THE NAISMITH PRESEASON WATCH LIST ATLANTA (Nov. 16, 2010) – Duke University leads the 2010-11 Naismith preseason watch list with three players, the most from any college, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. This year’s diverse list includes the top men’s college basketball players from 44 schools around the country. The watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2010-11 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T* will be awarded at the 2011 NCAA Men’s Final Four in Houston. “This year’s watch list features an incredible array of talent from across the country, which will create a tremendous challenge for our voting academy in determining the winner of the most prestigious trophy in college basketball,” said Eric Oberman, Atlanta Tipoff Club executive director. Since 2005, presenting sponsor AT&T has set the standard in allowing fans to participate in determining the trophy winner. Through the power and ease of text messaging**, fan voting will account for 25 percent of all of the final results – more than any other national college basketball award. In February, during CBS’ coverage of college basketball, the “AT&T at the Half” segment will feature a Naismith Trophy update highlighting the players in contention for the award. “AT&T is excited to watch the performances of these student-athletes in the coming season, and we look forward to following their successes,” said Jason Simpson, executive director, AT&T Corporate Sponsorships.
