RELEASE NUMBER 7 (October 9, 2017) PAC-12 NETWORK (National) | KOA-RADIO | CUBUFFS.COM (Live Stats) BUFFALO BITS … The Colorado Buffaloes (3-3, 0-3 Pac-12) have the first of two straight Cory Hall to in the interim head coaching position ... Colorado will remain on conference games in the Pacific Northwest this week, traveling to Corvallis to the Pac-12 road, heading back northwest to take on Washington State in take on the Oregon State Beavers (1-5, 0-3 Pac-12) in a 2:07 p.m. MDT Pullman; it will be the seventh time in seven years in the conference that the kickoff at Reser Stadium ... This will be CU’s third trip to OSU as a member of Buffs will play back-to-back road games (1-11 previously, never winning the the Pac-12, losing in 2013 but winning in 2015, which was CU’s first road leafe front end with the lone win a 17-14 verdcit at Utah to close their first year in win under Mike MacIntyre ... CU is coming off a 45-42 home loss to Arizona, the league) ... Colorado remains just two victories away from 700 all-time wins, a wild affair that saw the teams combine to score on 13 of 20 possessions, as the Buffs own a record of 698-496-36 (a .582 winning percentage), as the including eight straight scores in the second half ... TB Phillip Lindsay had Buffaloes are 25th on the all-time win list and is 36th in all-time winning a record night in the setback, becoming CU’s all-time leader in all-purpose percentage (29th for those schools with 1,000 or more games played in yards, an impressive accomplishment for a young man who tore his ACL his Division I-A) ... The Buffs will return home for the last Saturday of the month, senior year in high school ... Oregon State lost 38-10 last Saturday at USC; it hosting California in their annual homecoming game ... CUBuffs.com/media has a four-game losing streak, the last three coming to ranked opponents. On as your one stop for everything, including our on-line media guide and live Monday, Oct. 9, the Beavers announced that they and head coach Gary stats. Anderson mutually agreed to part ways; OSU promoted cornerbacks coach DEPTH CHART ON PAGE 60; ROSTER ON PAGES 61-63 CU-Oregon State (PAC-12 NETWORK/National): Ted Robinson (play-by-play) / Yogi Roth (color) / Jill Savage (sideline reporter) / David Feldman (producer) STAT OF THE WEEK In 1987, Colorado started tracking first downs earned; it caught on in the NFL a few years later but never in college, but it’s a cool stat: a player is credited with one when he earns one by rushing or receiving, and the quarterback also gets credited when throwing one. TB Phillip Lindsay had a game for the ages in this regard last Saturday against Arizona, as he tied the school mark for a non-quarterback with 17 (a record 16 of which were rushing); the late Rashaan Salaam set the mark on Oct. 1, 1994 when he had 15 rushing and two receiving. Even more remarkable was that 11 of those came on third (8) and fourth (3) downs: Lindsay was 8-of-11 on third downs and made all three of his fourth down tries. OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK WR Devin Ross had caught a pass in 20 straight regular season games (21 including the Alamo Bowl), dating to the 2015 season finale but was shut out against Arizona last Saturday; he had caught multiple passes in two of those games. WR Shay Fields now owns the longest streak at 19 (20 including the bowl); he’s caught two or more in 18 of those 19, including the first 17 of that run before UCLA limited him to one reception. WR Bryce Bobo has a streak of six straight games (all multiple receptions), while WR Jay MacIntyre has caught at least one in 10 straight games he’s appeared in, though he missed one with an injury. 2017 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (3-3, 0-3 Pac-12) 2017 Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That or ’16 rewind Sept. 1 RV Colorado State (N; Denver) NR PAC12 W 17- 3 4-2 65-22-2 Buffs go up 17-0 early, play first scoreless second half in eight seasons SEPT. 9 RV TEXAS STATE NR PAC12 W 37- 3 1-5 1- 0-0 Second straight game not allowing a TD a first to open a season since 1958 SEPT. 16 RV NORTHERN COLORADO NR PAC12 W 41-21 2-3 10- 2-0 CU wins first meeting with former in-state rival since 1934 game in Greeley SEPT. 23 RV WASHINGTON (N) 7 FS-1 L 10-37 6-0 5-11-1 Game plays out eerily similar to ’16 Pac-12 title game, as UW pulls away in 3Q Sept. 30 RV at UCLA NR ESPN2 L 23-27 3-2 3-10-0 Fourth straight tight game between the two (the four decided by 21 points) OCT. 7 NR ARIZONA (N; FW) NR PAC12 L 42-45 3-2 14- 6-0 Teams combine for 713 rush yards, record 608 by two players (Lindsay: 281) Oct. 14 NR at Oregon State NR PAC12 2:07 pm 1-5 4- 5-0 Largest margin of victory in a league game in 24 years; best start (4-1) since ’05 Oct. 21 at Washington State (N) ESPN 8:45 pm 6-0 6- 4-0 Liufau rolls up 453 total yards as CU outscores WSU 17-0 over final 16 minutes OCT. 28 CALIFORNIA (HC) TBA TBA 3-3 3- 5-0 Last meeting in 2014 a wild one: Cal rallies for 59-56 win in 2OT in Berkeley Nov. 4 at Arizona State TBA TBA 2-3 1- 7-0 Buffs finally break through against Sun Devils, rush for 315 yards and 5 TDs NOV. 11 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TBA TBA 5-1 0-11-0 USC leads 14-0 at half, CU ties game in fourth but Trojans fend off comeback Nov. 25 at Utah TBA TBA 4-1 32-28-3 Win clinches Pac-12 South title; last six games in series decided by 32 points Dec. 1 Pac-12 Championship Game (N) ESPN at Santa Clara, Calif. • Read Rick George's Full Bio
Rick George was named athletic director at the University of Colorado on July 17, 2013, returning to Boulder where he helped play a role in the school’s first and only national championship in football some 23 years earlier. George, 59, came to Colorado from the Texas Rangers baseball club of the American League, where he was named chief operating officer on October 5, 2010 with a promotion to president of business operations in February 2013. He agreed to a 5-year contract at CU, and he officially started on the job on August 12, 2013. In June 2016, the Board of Regents approved a contract extension through 2020-21, and in June 2019, the Regents once again extended him through the 2023-24 academic and athletic year. He is just the sixth full-time athletic director in Colorado history, following in the footsteps of Harry Carlson (1927-65), Eddie Crowder (1965-84), Bill Marolt (1984-96), Dick Tharp (1996- 2004) and Mike Bohn (2005-13). Two others have bridged directors in interim capacities, Jack Lengyel (six months between Tharp and Bohn) and Ceal Barry (two months between Bohn and George). His list of achievements in his first 1,000 days in the position were many, but none more significant than shepherding through a $156 million Athletic Complex Expansion from creation through fruition, gaining approval from the Board of Regents and then raising nearly one-half of the estimated cost to initiate construction, which began May 12, 2014. The project was the core of the Sustainable Excellence Initiative (SEI), the jewel of which was a long-awaited indoor practice facility.
