Our player numbers again increased, with a total of 235 players registered with the club this year. We fielded a total of 12 teams (U8 x 3, U9, U10 x 2, U10 Girls, U11, U12, U13, U15, and Colts), with 3 teams playing finals. Congratulations to the under 11, under 12, and Colts teams for all playing finals this year. With no teams playing finals in 2017, it was pleasing to see our on- field success building. After years of planning and working towards fielding girl’s teams, we finally managed to bring together an all-girls team at Macleod JFC. Thanks to Mark Medley for working to bring the team together, and for being the inaugural coach. This now gives us a platform to build on for future years, with plans to add at least a second team in 2019. This year also saw the return of Sunday matches at Winsor Reserve, thanks to the increase in player numbers requiring us to expand beyond Macleod Park. This was wonderful to see given the historical significance of the ground to MJFC. We made the decision at the start of the year not to run a canteen at Winsor on Sundays due to the added workload and small number of games to be played at the venue. However, we thank all those who helped keep the ground in good shape for matches and training, and to all who helped ensure game day ran smoothly. Winsor Reserve also saw an increased use for training during 2018. We recognise the facilities at Winsor are not up to the same standard as Macleod Park, however it is important that teams continue to support the ground and it’s use - particularly for week night training. We will continue this strategy through 2019, and hope all teams appreciate the importance of utilising these facilities. The off-field highlight of the year was without doubt the celebration of our 50th Anniversary. Special thanks to the sub-committee of Tom Barca, Mark Medley, Dannielle Abolencia, Anita Anderson, and Prue Waters who worked for 6 months to put together our 50th Anniversary Gala Ball. This was attended by over 240 people, including members of the original founding committee from 1968. As well as the presentation of two “Team of the Decade” teams, we also inducted out first 3 “Hall of Fame” members, to recognise outstanding achievement. Each inductee was nominated by the committee based on a set of defined criteria, and voted in at a full committee meeting. The 2018 inductees were: - Don Crowe (club founder and under 12 coach for 20 years) - Jamie Boland (player, coach and volunteer with 45 years of club involvement) - Tom Barca (Coach, Auskick coordinator, and committee member with over 20 years of service to the club) In just my second year as president, it was an honour to present each with their Hall of Fame award, and learn more about the rich history of our club. 5 Macleod Junior Football Club 2018 Annual Report We also marked our 50th Anniversary with the Colts team wearing a specially designed “heritage” jumper for the season, to reflect our older style playing jumpers. These were well received by the team, with many players choosing to also buy the jumper at seasons end. The focus of the committee this year was to again ensure we provide a great club for boys and girls to learn and develop football skills in a fun, family friendly environment. It was also pleasing to see a number of players receive recognition outside the club for their football efforts, notably Will Halton and Anthony Bolton being selected in the YJFL Under 13 rep team, and Evan Tsitsis, James Lucente, Kobe Brandt (Northern Knights) and Curtis Brown (Calder Cannons) all playing TAC Cup football in 2018. Our 2018 Thanks Night was held in October, where it was again an honor to have John and Norma Beever attend to present the 2018 Beever Family award. This year, it was a true family award, with Carl, Victoria, Cooper, and Riley Thompson winning the award following years of dedicated service to the club. Macleod JFC also relies on the support of local businesses to operate and we wish to thank the following sponsors for their support in 2018: - Miles Real Estate - Bendigo Bank - Viewbank Early Childhood Center - General Chicken Co - Cannon Toyota - The Truss People - Macleod Cellars - Ivanhoe Copy Center - No Bull Car Sales - Bean Around Espresso - Rosanna Heating & Cooling - Surefit - Modern Truck & Trailer Repairs - Carbone’s Place - Kingsbury Foodworks We saw a new team running the canteen this season, with Alison Andrew and Nada Manoski (and their respective families!) take over the operation of the canteen. Being a major source of revenue for the club, this is a key role, and we thank them for their efforts. I thank all who contributed to our 50th Year, particularly the committee, coaches, team managers, and volunteers who gave so much time throughout the season. Most importantly, I thank the players. It is for these young boys and girls that we all put in the hours of work, and I encourage all parents and carers to get involved in some way to make sure we remain strong and vibrant well into the future. As always, we have a number of top age players leaving the club in 2018, and I wish them all the best in their future endeavors and trust they leave with fond memories of their time at Macleod JFC. This was a wonderful year all round, and I’m already looking forward to a great 2019! Go Eagles! Paul Starmans MJFC President 6 Macleod Junior Football Club 2018 Annual Report VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT Vice President and Football Department Report 2018 was another successful season and a Big Thankyou to all those who generously and selflessly volunteered their time and effort. The main emphasis in Season 2018 has again been Player Development, Participation and Enjoyment. Many initiatives were designed to further develop skills, nurture good sportsmanship and increase enjoyment. This resulted in 3 Teams making finals which wqs pleasing. 2019 looks to be an even more positive year with a lot of work and planning put into Football Operations. The Club is looking to expand the Football Department to include Girls and Boys Co-ordinators, a Senior Club Co-ordinator as well as more roles involving people with in-depth knowledge and skills regarding Football Development and strategies.

  • AFL VICTORIA RELEASE AFL Victoria Is Particularly Pleased to Again See
AFL VICTORIA RELEASE AFL Victoria is particularly pleased to again see over half of the new talent selected in the NAB AFL Draft come from Victorian football. 36 Victorian players were selected in last night’s NAB AFL Draft, with 33 players recruited from the TAC Cup competition and three from the Peter Jackson VFL. Victorian community football and the talented player pathway produced 55% of new draftees while South Australia produced 21%, Western Australia 18%, Tasmania 5% and Queensland 1%. AFL Victoria General Manager Grant Williams believes the results reflect the strong talent development pathways in Victoria. “The NAB AFL Draft continues to highlight the variety of pathways in which talented players are being developed in Victoria, starting at a local community Club level and working their way up through the talented player pathway either via the TAC Cup or VFL competitions.” Victoria produced eight out of the first 10 draft selections, with Dandenong Southern Stingrays Lachie Whitfield becoming the eleventh number one pick from the TAC Cup competition in its 21 year history, and the fourth Dandenong top pick. Whitfield joined the likes of former Stingrays Jeff White (1994), Travis Johnstone (1997) and Tom Scully (2009) all of whom had their name read out first on AFL Draft night. “The TAC Cup competition continues to be the premier drafting ground for AFL footballers, with over 1,000 players having now been drafted over the 21 years of the competitions existence.” “Congratulations should go to each of AFL Victoria’s Talent Managers who manage quality programs in each of Victoria’s twelve regions that field teams in the TAC Cup competition.

  • Four-Way Tie in Morrish Medal
FOUR-WAY TIE IN MORRISH MEDAL ONE week after the Peter Jackson VFL’s J.J. Liston Trophy celebrated three winners, the Morrish Medal topped it with an historic four-way dead-heat in the TAC Cup’s highest individual honor. Bendigo Pioneers Jacob Chisari, Eastern Ranges’ Ben Cavarra, Geelong Falcons’ George Cameron and Gippsland Power’s Josh Scott provided the first quadruple tie in the Morrish history. Only twice before – 2008 when the Power’s Jarryd Blair and Murray Bushranger Fabian Priest dead-heated and again two years later when Gippsland’s Dyson Heppell and Sandringham Dragon’s Jackson Sketcher couldn’t be separated – has the Morrish Medal posted multiple winners. But, never before has the TAC Cup toasted four players as Morrish winners. In a thrilling finale to the vote count, Cameron moved to 16 votes after 11 rounds, and set what would be the winning total for the rest of the competition to chase. Cavarra made his move with a best-on-ground game against Murray in Round 15, but at the end of the next Round the landscape changed dramatically. With Chisari adding his sixth two vote game and Scott collecting two votes, Cameron for the first time since Round 11 wasn’t alone in first place. Significantly, Chisari and Scott did not play in the final game. Chisari played for Bendigo Gold in the VFL while Scott didn’t play that weekend, which left Cameron the chance to break the deadlock. But, Cameron didn’t attract the umpires attention in Geelong’s 41-point win against Dandenong.
