Vol. 57 No. 40 Friday, October 6, 2000 Fire inspections to start next week in Guantanamo Bay

Courtesy of the Naval Station Fire Department National Fire Prevention Week runs from Oct. 8 - 14 and begins our annual home safety program. This year, the fire department will conduct home fire safety training sessions with each activity. At this time, base residents may schedule a home fire safety inspection with the fire department. These inspections last approximately 15 minutes per house. The fire department encourages all residents to participate in this training and home inspection program. Appointments may be made through your command at 4598 or 4611. "The Great Escape" features a contest where base residents make a plan of escape from their quarters. Thanks to the feedback from fire .departments across North American, the National Fire Protection Associa- tion has documented 58 lives saved as a direct result of participation in "The Great Escape." Forms have been passed out at the elementary school and may be turned in at any fire station or brought to the fire department's "Open House" Oct. 14. The open house will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will offer fun and games for all ages. Two winners, chosen nationally by the National Fire Protection Association, will win an all expense paid vacation to y inPF s attn rbaks to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. Photo by PH2 Emmitt 1. By CWO3 Al Larsen NCTAMSLANT Detachment Officer-in-Charge The Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic Detachment and Local Communications Network would like to take this opportunity to review the procedures for placing and receiving morale calls. Military personnel and CONUS-recruited civil service employees may place or receive morale calls from 6 to 11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays. All calls are limited to 15 minutes and official government calls will have priority over morale calls. To place a morale call, an individual must make a reservation by dialing 916 starting at 5 p.m. (7 a.m. on weekends). Morale calls can be made from any phone on base by dialing the operator and providing the operator with the DSN number to a base located in the city that you want your call to be connected to. The call must be a local call from the receiving base. Not all bases participate in the program and some bases may require that the call be placed from a DSN line on base. Persons overseas or in CONUS should contact the local base operator to obtain their local procedures for placing morale calls. Persons overseas or in CONUS can place morale calls Marinesfrom the Marine galley pose in to GTMO by dialing their local base operator and giving them the number to reach Guantanamo Bay, front of Quick Hall on the galley's last DSN 723-1520. Once connected to 723-1520, the person calling will provide the LCN operator with day in service. The galley served steak, the extension they want to be connected to and the operator will do the rest. Morale calls are limited to one call every seven days. If an individual makes a reservation and fails oter les an ar eicn to call back during the designated time, the call will be considered a no show and the caller will have Photo by PH2 Emmitt J.
