Please call Aracely to make your appointment by May 17, 2020 Sixth Sunday of THE REASON FOR OUR HOPE “What is the reason for your hope?” Imagine somebody coming up to you and asking you that question. Not “What are you hoping for?” or “What are you hoping to do?” No, this isn’t about our desires for possessions or aspirations for life, it’s “Why do you hope?” Peter today tells us that we ought to be ready to give an answer to this question. Truth be told, few of us spend much time thinking about why we hope. Luckily, the scriptures today give us our answers. We hope because Christ suffered for us, in order that we might come to God. We hope because we know that, in the Spirit, God grants us another Advocate through Christ to remain with us always. No matter what we might hope for, whatever we might hope to do, we always first know and proclaim the reason for our hope: the presence of God in Christ, with us through the power of the Spirit. From the desk of our pastor, Father Tony Neusch. “Hear now, all you who fear GOD, while I declare what he has done for me.” There is an immediacy to the final strophe of this weekend’s psalm. Hey all of you listen up I have something to say. It is a proclamation of Good News. I am going to list all the things that He has done for me. First of all, best of all, He always listened to my prayer and never refused to give me kindness. If you were given a dais to stand upon and proclaim the list of God’s Goodness to you how would you start? If we had a captive audience waiting to listen to the words that drip from our lips, with which goodness would you begin? There is so much in our lives that we could begin with a litany of complaints. We could declare our feelings of despair and abandonment. We could begin with slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, and if we do. I am sure that all that would result would be loud noise of cacophony. The air would be filled with discordant cries of distress. Those who listen would quickly add their own grievances and the air would fill with ugly howls of disappointments. But when we cry out our blessings, and gifts, and comforts, and graces then the sound becomes joy and goodness and kindness. When we listen and rejoice in the goodness of our God given to another, then that which we receive is multiplied ex- ponentially. Let us lift up our voices in praise of the goodness and kindness of God who pours his love in Christ Jesus upon all of His creation. Western flair for Benevolent Care Fund Due to COVID-19 concerns, the annual Founders Day fund raiser for Benevolent Care at King’s Manor Retirement Home in Hereford, Texas set for July 18, 2020 has been canceled. This vital revenue loss spurred Wayne Dollar of Dol- lar’s Spurs, a veteran 40-year spur maker, to handcraft his 1000th pair of spurs—a very special offering, using sterling silver, 14 karat gold and rubies. He and wife, Kris, have donated the spurs to the Benevolent Care Fund of King’s Manor to raise money to provide continuing care for Manor residents who have exhausted their resources to ensure that they continue to have a home at King’s Manor. The spurs are being raffled at a price of $100 per ticket. The drawing to be held Au- gust 18, 2020.

The spurs have a 1 1/4 inch heel band and a 2 3/4 inch shank . The 2 1/2 inch rowel has 15 spokes. The heel bands and shanks are completely over- laid with sterling silver. Mountings atop the silver are 14 karat gold. Eight 4mm AA grade rubies are set in gold rosettes. Hand engraving covers the precious metals. The swings, rowels and shank tops are also engraved. Spurs being raffled pictured above. Antique browning is the finish on the exposed steel. Material costs alone in making these spurs exceeds $2,200. Estimated retail value of this “boot jewelry” is $4,000.

A purchased ticket has a one in 200 chance of winning. Only 200 tickets are being sold. View the spurs or purchase tickets on Facebook and make Pay Pal payments to [email protected] or see website link kmmrs.com

Tickets may also be purchased by calling the King’s Manor office at 364-0661. A Prayer for High School Graduates. Dear God, we pray that our children would be strong and courageous, believing that you have called them and are always with them. We ask that they would be bold to stand for what is right, even if it means standing alone. Equip them for every purpose and journey you have in store, so that they would live as mighty warriors in this life for your purposes. We pray that when they encounter var- ious struggles and difficult times, when they experience loss and things don’t go their way, that you would teach them greater perseverance through it all. Build deeper character, stronger faith, and use any hardship in their lives for ultimate good, turning it around for blessing instead. We ask for your powerful boldness and courage to face every challenge set before them with the confidence and peace that can only come from your spirit. Raise up greatness within their lives, greatness in this generation. May they be willing to stand strong and true, passionate for you, believing that you have designed them for purpose and good works, which you have planned and prepared in advance for them to do. Amen.

Thought for Reflection: “Every believer in this world must become a spark of light.” —Pope John XXIII Graduating from high school is no small feat - but the lessons you’ve learned will stay with you as you plan the next steps of your future. Congratulations Class of 2020!
