Form HISTORY1913-21 BUREAUOFMILITARY 1913-21 BUROSTAIREMILEATA ORIGINAL No. W.S. 1715 SEÁN STATEMENT BY COMMANDANT-GENERAL BOYLAN Edenmore, Dunboyne, Co, Meath. Part II. Just prior to my release from Frongoch, two organisations called "The Irish National Aid Association" and "The Irish Volunteers' Dependents' Fund" had been launched in Dublin and elsewhere for the purpose of collecting funds to help the dependents of Volunteers interned in Frongoch and elsewhere. Those two organisations were amalgamated a short time later and eventually became "The Irish White Cross". Immediately after my release, with the help of the other Volunteers in Dunboyne, I organised collections in the area for the Fund. From this Fund, the Volunteers still interned or in Jail received gifts of cigarettes, tobacco and money to buy certain essentials. Their dependents also received gifts of money in necessitous cases. At the same time, I got most of the Dunboyne Volunteers together again. A few of the original members dropped out. We now had about twelve active men, ready and willing to continue the struggle for freedom. Of those twelve men I would say nine were members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood or Dunboyne Circle. I was the Centre of Dunboyne Circle and got in touch with members of the Leinster and Supreme Councils in Dublin who had been released or who had not been arrested.

  • St. Paul's National School Easter Newsletter 2019
Confirmation Congratulations to the 6th class children who made their Confirmation on March 22nd. Bishop Tom Deenihan confirmed them on the day and the PA hosted an after party here at the school. Thank you to the PA for all their efforts in putting on this memorable event. St. Paul’s National School Easter Newsletter 2019 We’re always up for a bit of excitement in St. Paul’s and what could be more exciting than a school surrounded by scaffolding and fencing! Unfortunately the excitement is wearing off and there has been very little in the way of information or progress from the Department of Education and Skills. They still tell us their investigations into all Western schools are ongoing and that they will have no information until it is all completed. You’ll hear when I do! There will be further investigations over the Easter break and they have agreed to address some electrical issues which we brought to their attention. Hopefully the weather will be better in the final term and the children will be able to walk, scoot and cycle, which will help with the parking! Meanwhile, fun and games continue as normal and I am very grateful for the Congratulations to the following children who have missed no days this term patience, cooperation and support shown by all the parents and staff. Roll on tomorrow and our ‘Pyjama Dance for Cancer’! Thank you to the Student Council for organising this. Enjoy the Easter break and we’ll Ms Melvin’s Class: Harley Cummins, Zoe Elwood, Emily Petrisor, Tadhg Dempsey, Kara Theron and Erin see you all on the 29th of April.

Subject. Carnaross Company, 5th Battalion, Meath Brigade, - I.R.A. 1917 11thJuly, 1921. if Conditions, any, Stipulatedby Witness. Nil. S.2967. File No. Form B.S.M.2 P.53210006.57 3/4526 STAFMENT BY SEÁNFARELLY, Scurlogstown, Trim, county Meath. Part II, In a very short time after the surrender of Raster Week, followed by the executions and deportations, a great change was noticeable In the Irish people. Locally the country lads who heretofore massed us with a sneer, were now inclined to discuss the future of our country with us. We did not take matters lying down hut kept together as a unit. For the three years before Easter Week, my old hate in Carnaross had been used as the Headquarters of the local Volunteers and was referred to by the R.I.C. and Hibernians as "Liberty Rail". He now thought it advisable to have a new Headquarters as us thought it would not be fair to those who might now be prepared. to loin us or the Sinn Féin movement, to ask them to meet at "Liberty, Hail" with its reputation among our enemies as a communist cell, so we rented a house in the village from Ned Farrelly. It became a meeting place for the local Volunteers and the Sinn Féin club. the end of 1916, we had started Irish step and figure dancing Bylanes in the Nationa1 School as well as classes in the Irish Language.

ROINN COSANTA. BUREAU OF MILITARY HISTORY, 1913-21 STATEMENT BY WITNESS. DOCUMENT NO. W.S. 1615. Witness Seán Keogh, Smithstown, Ballinlough, Kells, Co. Meath. Identity. 0/C 5th Battn., Meath Brigade. Subject. Crossakiel Coy., Irish Volunteers, Co. Meath, I914-21. Conditions, if any, Stipulated by Witness. Nil. File No S.2941. Form BSM.2 STATEMENT OF SEAN KEOGH Smithstown, Ballinlough. Kells. Co. Meath. I was born in Smithstown, Ballinlough, Co. Meath, on 27th April 1898. I attended the local National School. When I was 12 years of age my father, who was a farmer, died. I left school then and started to work on the farm. A company of the Irish National Volunteers was formed in Crossakiel in the year 1914 which I joined at the start. The strength of the company was about 200. They had been organised by a Captain Worship Booker, an officer in the British army, reserve. We were drilled by this officer and an ex-British army man named Terence Brady. The company ceased to exist after about six months when John Redmond offered the Volunteers to England in their supposed fight for small nationalities. In September 1915, I went to an agricultural college run by the Franciscan Brothers at Mountbellew, Co. Galway, for a course in agricultural training. Shortly after going there a company of the Irish Volunteers was formed from among the students attending the course. It was organised by a John Casserley who drilled us in the college grounds. We numbered 24. The R.I.C. often saw us drilling, but took no notice.
