SIlt, In doing myself the honour to forward the following proposals for the revised assessment of the villages comprised in the old Baqami TaJ.uka., I should premise that t4e subject was first considered with a view to th~ introduction of the new rates during the year 1881-82, when the lease expU'ed; but as the statistics of the taluka did not appear then favourable to new and enhanced assessment, the matter was, with the sanction of Government, deferred till the present season. The statistics submitted with this report, considered together with the near approach of railway communication} seem now to warrant, in my . 1Jpiniun,-~ recn~deration of the subject. 2. The partial re-measurement system, which: has now been in use in this survey for some years and whose details have been fully explained in former settlement reports and a.pproved by Gover~ent, was not quite so extensively applied in this M.Iuka as in those dealt witli more recently.
