National Service Scheme

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" Aurora has always strived to make society a better place. Both lecturers and students utilize every opportunity to help people. The NSS wing of Aurora is a shining example of this fact. It consists of 2 units, each of which has a 100 student volunteers, guided by a Program Officer. On June 26th i.e., the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the NSS members enlightened everyone on the importance and the measures to be taken to create an international society free of drug abuse. As a part of the famous Swachh Bharat drive, village roads were cleaned and several saplings were planted by the volunteers, with GHMC's support. The volunteers also employed innovative methods to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness. On 31st October, 2014, on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary, the volunteers participated in the 'Run For Unity' event. On November 30th, 2014, more than 365 volunteers participated in the AIDS Rally from Sundaraiah Park to NTR Stadium. This year, 24th September was a special day in the history of Aurora's NSS Cell, as A. Uday Kumar Reddy of MSCs 3B bagged the Telangana State Best NSS Volunteer award for his dedication and sincerity

My India Projects

The traditional methods in education such as single discipline research have encountered a bottleneck and made it difficult for students to succeed in many academic and technical programmes. Therefore, to overcome this problem and achieve a breakthrough, there is a need for research involving more than one discipline. In order to reconstruct the education process and promote equality and cultural pluralism in a universally accepted approach, interdisciplinary projects have been introduced as a potential tool for promoting learning and fostering positive interpersonal relationships among diverse groups of students. Thus, this interdisciplinary project initiative is termed as “My India”.

The final presentation ceremony of the top twenty five My India Projects for the year 2014-2015 was held on 22nd January. The judges for the day were prominent environmentalists-Major Shiv Kiran, CEO, Sukuki Exnora, and Vamsi Krishna and Deepak, WWF. Students eagerly displayed their colourful works. The ribbon cutting and the lighting of the lamp marked the ceremony open. The audience was enthralled with motivational speeches and a thought-provoking documentary on environmental imbalance. With immense enthusiasm and competitive spirit, the students interacted with the judges and spoke about their respective projects. After the evaluations, the judges shared their experiences with the students. Emphasis was given on letting go of greed in order to save our society. The students were appreciated for doing their bit in saving nature. The popular She –teams conducted an awareness program on Anti Eve-teasing. The winners were congratulated. The event ended on an inspiring note to save our environment.

Releasing exactly one year after what has been acclaimed as the best space movie ever, Gravity, Interstellar had a lofty target to reach. Visually, Interstellar is as grand as Gravity or any other film before it. But emotionally, the plot falls a bit flat, because it is hard to believe the very elite of the human race, the scientists and the astronauts, can resort to petty bickering while trying to save the human race billions and billions of miles away from Earth. The science is also a bit difficult to wrap one's head around, as time dilation is not exactly a familiar concept

Han Solo is a dashing and smarmy thief with the heart of gold. The sarcastic, snappy and laid-back attitude of Han makes him more charming than the others. Ford is terrific as the roguish and arrogant Han. His spot-on comedic timing is also utilized well, giving us memorable lines such as, “Great, kid! Don't get cocky “and “You know, sometimes I amaze even myself”. James Earl Jones' rich baritone is effectively used for the horrifying Darth Vader. From his first appearance, Vader intimidates us. His fearsome armor, unsettling breathing and cold- blooded attitude make him a strong enemy for our heroes. Jones' commanding voice makes Vader one of the best movie villains of all time. Lines such as, “I find your lack of faith disturbing” and “The Force is strong with this one” have a permanent place in history because of Jones. The crackling chemistry and banter between Hamill, Fisher and Ford provide ample entertainment.

Book Talk Thoughts

Though time and tide, Books are the path to wit and wisdom, Have taken us far and wide, We still can feel, deep down inside. Books guide us towards freedom That the memories that bind us, Books provide us with material food, will never be null and void. Books give us ideas- true and good. For it is the relationships that last, Books take away monotony and boredom, Friends that count and memories that we all hold fast, Books take us to the wonderful kingdom. That defines who we are. Books help us solve the puzzles of life, For whatever we may have achieved today, Books give peace and take away strife. Are all built on our past. Books build our moral character, Books make us the best actor Books are our treasure trove, When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, Books make our brain grow. When the road you're trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, Books tell us the story of man, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, How he struggled and suffered pain. When care is pressing you down a bit, Books are the best play things in solitude, Rest if you must; but don't you quit. Books change our attitude. Books give us unfailing company, Success is failure turned inside out, Books give us music and symphony. The silver tint of the clouds of doubts, Books show us the road to God, And you never can tell how close you are, Books teach us to pray to Lord. It may be near when it seems a far, Books like our diet should be sound and wholesome, So stick to fight when you're hardest hit, For trashy books turn the mind foulsome. It's when things seems worst that you mustn't quit. Books tell us the why and wherefore, Life is queen with its twists and turns, Books tell us witticisms and a lot more. As everyone of us sometimes learns, Make books your best friend, And many a failure turns about For they never desert us in the end. When he might have won had he stuck it out, Don't give up, though the pace seems slow, You might succeed with another blow. - Ankita Sarwa B.Com II D - Shirisha K B.Com II D

A Dutiful Pal Shine

Today I met a great new friend, Who knew me right away. It was funny how she understood, All I had to say.

She listened to my problems, She listened to my dreams. We talked about love and life, She had been there too, it seems.

She never interrupted me, Or need to have her say. She just listened very patiently, And didn't go away.

I wanted her to understand, How much this meant to me, But as I went to hug her, Life is something we all share Something startled me. Just like the oxygen in the air The way we live it is up to us I put my hands in front of me, And went to pull her nearer, With a negative or a plus And realised, that my new best friend, Life is something we should cherish Was nothing but a mirror. We never know when we will perish Live each and every single day - Mahek Desai Smell the flowers, stop and play B.Com Reg - 2D Life is something, we have been blessed Choice is yours, choose your guest Follow your passions and you'll be fine With the right attitude you'll shine
