Nations from around the world have flooded Haiti with monetary support, and countless governments have provided manpower to help with relief efforts. As of yesterday, $210 million has been donated to the Haiti relief efforts, and the number is growing daily. Churches, schools, communities, governments and individuals have all united to help a country in need. Miracle baby Tuesday night I was watching the news as they pulled out a baby that had been trapped in the rubble for five days. By DOUG YEARWOOD It’s something Oiler fans have only dreamt about in recent years, although they’ve come tantalizingly close on numerous occasions. The City of Champions has won five Stanley Cups, but in recent years it seems the attention has shifted towards winning that cov- eted top draft pick. With the lack of effort abundant, and with play- ers more worried about no line, no cover at Oil City, the results are no scoring, and no winning, although I can’t say that I wouldn’t be drinking after all the games myself. Sure, we’ve come close to saving our franchise in the past, with picks like Sam Gagner, the illustrious Steve Kelly, , and who could forget ... OK, so our Top 10 picks in the past haven’t worked out so far, but this one is a no brainer! Oiler fans should all hop on the “Fall for Hall” bandwagon. For those who aren’t aware, Taylor Hall is an 18-year-old man-beast from the Ontario Hockey League who has been on the NHL’s radar for the past three years. When he was 16 and in his rookie season, he posted 45 goals and 84 points in only 63 games, opening the eyes of pro scouts all around the world. After being a late cut from Team Canada in his sophomore junior season, Hall posted 90 points in 63 games, and began to show a mean streak, boasting 60 PIMs. This year in only 37 games, “The Saviour” has 67 points. In other words, the guy can play. Sure, Sam Gagner posted nearly those same exact stats in his junior career, but Hall has no choice but to excel with all the media pressure on him. Why not add some heat to the pressure cooker by placing him on a rebuilding Canadian team with diehard fans, and asking him to single handedly rebuild the Oiler franchise. It doesn’t seem insurmountable – just look at the top picks of years past in similar situations: Crosby, Tavares, Nash, Fleury and Stamkos. Same crap, different pile. All I’m saying is it’s sad as an Oiler fan when you’d rather tune in to an episode of Jersey Shore than the game, if only to feel some sense of excitement. If the Oilers have dreams of hoisting that sixth banner in Rex- all Place, there are no other options; trade the team and place faith windsorspitfiresohl.blogspot.com squarely on the shoulders of Taylor Hall, for his arrival is almost here. Given the risk of laptop theft and the poten- tial losses that laptop theft can cause, what are some of the steps that individuals and organiza- tions can implement to prevent it? NON-TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS ● Keep the laptop out of sight. When not in use, the laptop should be safely tucked away in a locked desk drawer or cabinet. Never leave a lap- top in a locker. Always take it with you or put it in the trunk of your vehicle … out of sight, out of mind. ● If you work in an office, keep your office space locked when you are not in it. Everyone is busy working, so relying on coworkers to watch your office while you are out is taking a signifi- cant risk. It is amazing how quickly items can grow legs when left unattended. ● Communicate employee responsibility of owning a laptop. Extra care must be taken to ensure it is safe and secure. ● Be aware of your environment and report suspicious people or events to Campus Security Services at 780-471-7477. CABLES One of the cheapest and most cost-effective solutions to deter thieves is to attach a security cable to your laptop. In most cases, the very fact that you have made the effort to physically secure the laptop to an immobile object will be enough to cause a potential thief to look for easier prey. SECURE STORAGE CABINETS Don’t leave laptops unsecured in general areas.
