June 2 & 3, 2018 Stephens Lake Park Art in the Park has been an iconic summer-in-Columbia event since 1959, when it was founded by the Columbia Art League as the Sidewalk Art Fair. In 2017, some 14,000 people attended the Fine Arts & Crafts event at Stephens Lake Park, spending in excess of $165,000. Now in it’s 60th year, Art in the Park remains the only completely free major festival in Columbia, bringing together people from all walks of life for two days of art, music, magic and creativity. For the past four years Art in the Park has been a designated ‘Signature Series’ event by the Columbia Convention & Visitors’ Bureau. The festival is organized by the Columbia Art League, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization founded over 50 years ago, and funded with thanks to a range of corporate and private sponsors, with support from city and state arts funding. Aside from the Columbia Art League Executive Director, Art in the Park is 100% staffed by community volunteers. For sponsors, Art in the Park offers an opportunity to speak to a cross section of the community at a feel-good event that generations of Columbians and mid-Missourians look forward to every year. Presented by Justin Marable, Printmaking Samuel Yao, Fiber Yukari Kashihara, Ceramic 2017 Best in 2D Media 2017 Best in Show 2017 Best in Ceramics Lawrence, KS Ann Arbor, MI Rocheport, MO 110 artists from across the United States take part in the weekend event, showing and selling art in all media: painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, glass, wood, sculpture, mixed media and fiber. In addition to the main visual arts component of the festival, Art in the Park also features roving magicians and children’s performers, and family activities. To promote young area artists, the Emerging Artist Pavilion was introduced in 2010 displaying works by Boone County high school and undergraduate students. For children, CAL provides a Kid’s Art Spot tent for art creation with 4-5 different art projects offered free of charge. In 2011 the festival started a Young Collectors’ Tent – a children only tent full of small art treasures donated by festival and CAL artists. The $5 entrance fee supports CAL’s Community Art Reach programming. Regular sponsors of the festival include the Columbia Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Boone County National Bank, Commerce Bank, Boone Electric Community Trust, Stephens College, KPLA/KFRU, KBIA, the Columbia Tribune and the Missouri Arts Council.
