    BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS: COACHES BIOS BRENT THOMPSON - HEAD COACH Brent Thompson is in his seventh season as head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which also marks his ninth year in the New York Islanders organization. Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 246-203-50 in 499 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MICHIGAN TECH’S TANNER KERO NAMED FINALIST FOR HOBEY BAKER AWARD WCHA Player of the Year among 10 candidates for college hockey’s top honor EDINA, Minn. – March 19, 2015 – Michigan Tech senior forward Tanner Kero has been named one of the top 10 finalists for the 2015 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given annually to college hockey’s top player. A senior forward from Hancock, Mich., Kero was named the 2014-15 WCHA Player of the Year, the WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year and to the All-WCHA First Team. The Huskies’ co-captain has helped lead Tech to a number four national ranking and a trip to this weekend’s WCHA Final Five. Among the most prolific playmakers in the country, Kero led the WCHA in conference scoring (13-21—34) and overall scoring (18-25—43) during the regular season. His 45 points overall (19 goals and 26 assists) entering the Final Five are tied for 10th-most nationally, while his tied for ninth with a +23 rating. A consistent and clutch performer, he has tallied 12 multi-point efforts and is tied for third in the country with seven game-winning goals. In the classroom, Kero maintains a 3.72 GPA in mathematics with a concentration in actuarial sciences. He has been honored as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete and earned a spot on the All-Academic team in all three years in which he has been eligible. Stanton has been assigned to the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate. Stanton, 27, has appeared in 120 career NHL games, registering four goals and 23 assists for 27 points with 71 penalty minutes and a +14 plus/minus rating with Washington, Vancouver and Chicago. He tallied career highs in assists, points and games played in 2013-14 when he notched 1-15-16 and 32 penalty minutes in 64 games with the Canucks. The following season, he added 3-8-11 and 35 penalty minutes in 54 outings with the club. The St. Albert, Alberta native has also registered 14-66-80 and 430 penalty minutes in 299 career AHL games, including 1-3-4 and 29 penalty minutes in 15 games with the San Antonio Rampage this season. In 2015-16, he collected 4-12-16 and 69 penalty minutes in 60 games with Hershey, helping the Bears advance to the 2016 Calder Cup Finals, where they were defeated by the Monsters. Prior to signing with the Blackhawks as a free agent in 2010, Stanton collected 19-83-102 and 337 penalty minutes in 242 career games with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League. Goloubef, 26, was selected by the Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft and tallied 2-16-18 and 41 penalty minutes in 96 career NHL games with the club.
