Page 16 >>> MT BOUCHERIE SKATING CLUB

The Mt. Boucherie Skating Club has had a tremendous 2014/2015 skating season so far. We are thrilled to say enrollment in all our programs (especially figure skating) is up consid- erably from last season. This has kept our coaches and volunteers especially busy. Many of our club members (skaters, coaches, volunteers) were involved in the 2014 Skate Canada International ISU Grand Prix competition. This once in a lifetime event was a perfect way to get everyone excited about the skating season. It was a great experience for everyone and one we won‟t soon forget. In November the MBSC hosted the 2014 Okanagan Interclub competition in the Royal LePage Place arena. The event ran smoothly, the MBSC had 13 skaters participating in 24 events. Our skaters had a successful weekend at the Interclub bringing home medals and ribbons in every event we entered. The volunteers worked extremely hard dur- ing the weekend, and we are glad to report it was a huge success. Congratulations to Tianna Potts and Kayla Smart for being selected for the 2015 Skate Canada BC Prospect Team. Tianna‟s had a personal best season which started off in the Pre Juvenile U11 category and finished off in the Juvenile U11 category. She had a per- sonal best score of 29.41 at the Super Series Final in Kelowna. Kayla compet- ed in Novice this season and even though she was tending to injuries for most of the season she was able to achieve a personal best long program at the BC/YK Sectional Championships in Prince George. Our Centre skaters were ex- cited to have the 2015 Canada Winter Games happen right here in their hometown and many of them were involved by helping as ice patchers or flower retrievers.

2 n celebration of the progress all of our skaters have made, our winter season Iculminated with a fabulous Spring Fling recit- al. Fun was had by all and the cute little Can- skaters stole the show. This year, several teen- aged International Students wanted to learn to skate, including a few who had never skated before. To meet their needs, we created a Can- skate session just for them. All made excellent progress as at first, some were barely able to stand up unassisted. By the end of the winter session, all were able to participate in a group routine for the recital. Once again, our kids helped other kids have the ability to partici- pate in sports because a portion of the pro- ceeds from the recital will be donated to Kid- Sport. We are grateful to our coaches Barbara Turner, Brenda Charity and Murray Carey for their dedication to make this an outstanding event! Spring Fling Recital - March 7, 2015

Courtney Bueckert

At the age of 4 I fell in love with figure skating. It was- n‟t just my dream; it became my passion and my life. So when I passed my first gold in April 2014 at the age of 16 it was a huge accomplishment for me. This inter- pretive wasn‟t only the interpretive I passed my gold with, it was the interpretive that spoke about my fami- ly. I dedicated my interpretive “I‟m Gonna Love You Through It” to my mom who was going through breast cancer at the time. It was my way of being able to say how I felt without actually speaking. I‟d like to thank my coaches, my friends, my family, and all of Peace Passage Skating Club, but most importantly my mom because without her I wouldn‟t be the person I am to- day. She‟d been my inspiration since day one and my biggest supporter.
