NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Romans 12:12)

In observance of the National Day of Prayer, Faith Lutheran Church is planning an opportunity for prayer, healing, and worship on Thursday, May 4. The sanctuary will be open to everyone from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for personal prayer, meditation and quiet time. A resource table and prayer partner will be available for those needing assistance or help getting started. The day will conclude with a Community Prayer and Healing Service at 6:30 p.m., incorporating music, biblical reflection, meditation and additional personal/group prayer time. At the end of the Thursday, May 4 service, those interested may come forward to the altar rail 6:30 p.m. for prayer with a member of the Faith’s Pastoral Office Faith Ministry Center Team and/or to receive the ancient custom of anointing with oil for healing and forgiveness. All are welcome – invite your family and friends! SUMMER WORSHIP SCHEDULE We are in for an adventure this summer! “As I’m working on my taxes and contemplating what this new year is going to bring, panic creeps in and I just want to hide and not face the day. Then you play the song, ‘In the Eye of the Storm’, and all my worries fade and I can find my peace in Jesus, because he has it all under control, and I know that everything is going to work out for us.

Without The Family radio, I would be a mess and everyday life would be a struggle. Thank you for your dedication to bringing hope and God’s promises to us when we feel so far away.” -Mary Ann

2017 FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN MOBILEPACK Volunteers from Faith Lutheran and from around the community will be packing meals for Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) this summer. The MobilePack will be Friday and Saturday, June 9-10 at New Hope Lutheran in Neenah. FMSC provides life-saving meals for desperate children around the world. Faith has been a part of packing over 1.1 million meals since March 2012!

Ways you can help:  Become a volunteer at: https://give.fmsc.org/events/-/e118693.  Pray for the success of our MobilePack event and for the MobilePack steering committee, as well as the children who will benefit from the meals we pack.  Make a donation by writing a check to Faith Lutheran Church or Feed My Starving Children (memo: ‘FMSC MobilePack 1706- 105AU’). Or make a donation online at https://give.fmsc.org/faithlutheran. You can also start a fundraiser group and follow instructions to invite friends and family to join your fundraising efforts. διακονία The Greek translation is diakonia from which the word deacon is derived. In the modern church the diakonia refers to ministry and service, which can refer to help and service of various kinds. This can range in meaning from spiritual biblical teaching (Acts 6:4) to the practical giving of provisions, supplies, support, and finances to those in need (2Colossians 9:12).

The idea that service to God should have only to do with a church altar, singing, reading, sacrifice, and the like is without doubt but the worst trick of the devil. How could the devil have led us more effectively astray than by the narrow conception that the service of God takes place only in the church and by works done therein. … The whole world could abound with services to the Lord … not only in churches but also in the home, kitchen, workshop, and field. ––Martin Luther

Our great reformer Martin Luther understood that ministry is more than just work done by pastors. Our definition of ministry is “the faithful service of God’s people rendered unto God and others on His behalf to bring Him glory, build up His church, and reach out to His world.” Our leaders are given to the church for the purpose of equipping every member to do the ministry––to render service to the Lord, to the church, and to the world.

We often think of our jobs in terms of the financial benefits they provide for us and our families. This isn’t necessarily wrong, but we also ought to consider how our work can benefit others—either customers who benefit from our goods or services, or perhaps our coworkers, whose lives we can affect by serving them in times of need. If we are to imitate Jesus and thereby do the work of ministry to which we have all been called, we must learn to look at life with an others-orientation in our workplaces, our homes, our church- es, and every other arena.

God has uniquely designed some to take the message of Christ to people in the far reaches of the world, but all of us have our own “mission fields” in our homes, neighborhoods, places of employment, and the like. It is our responsibility to spread the gospel with our words and live out the gospel with our lives. As we enter into the mission field after Church service we are called to “build up His church, and reach out to His world”.
