The Brandon Community Library provides a place of reading, learning and fun for all ages - and it has since 1975. Merging with the Minnehaha County Libraries and the Sioux Falls Libraries, the Brandon Community Library became Siouxland Libraries in 1995. As the growth of Brandon continued, so did the use of the local library. Brandon Community Library joined with the high school library in 2003, at which time the 10,000-square foot structure was connected to the southeast corner of Brandon Valley High School benefiting both the public and its students.
Minnehaha County residents and nonresidents have access to the library’s 27,000-plus in-house books, magazines, movies, and downloadables; however, if the library doesn’t own a specific item, it may be possible to obtain the materials through other Siouxland Libraries or interlibrary loan. In addition to offering collections, the library offers programs throughout the year for preschoolers, children, tweens/teens, and adults. If you’re a visitor in need of computer/internet/Wi-Fi access, just ask for a guest pass; printing, copying, scanning and faxing is also available.

This consolidated the Brandon and Valley Springs school districts, along with 12 other common school districts, to create the BVSD. The school district encompasses 128 square miles, including the Sioux Falls area to the Minnesota and Iowa borders. It is an area that has been marked by unbelievable growth and economic development over the last two decades. This development has brought positive changes to the district in the areas of student populations and physical development. This one-time small, rural district has now grown into the fifth largest school district in the state of South Dakota.
The school district currently has four elementary schools, an intermediate school, one middle school and one high school. Sparta Elementary comes on board in the fall of 2021.

Aspen Park is 70.3 acres of developed park land that contains eight softball fields, First National Bank Field championship-style baseball field and two permanent concession stands. It also offers two tennis courts, two sand volleyball courts, radio controlled (RC) dirt track and a large array of playground equipment. A bike path wanders thru the area and connects to Big Sioux Recreation Area. It is also the site for the City swimming pool that contains diving boards, slides, and wading area. A splash pad for youngsters is also forthcoming. Picnic shelters adjoin the area for picnicking and relaxation. Recently, the city acquired 40 acres for future park sledding hill and modern restrooms. Big Sioux Recreation Area - Brandon, SD Big Sioux Rec Area lies on the banks of South Dakota’s Big Sioux River. It is popular among campers, canoers, history buffs and archers. For more information, call (605) 582-7243 or log on at http://gfp.sd.gov/state-parks/directory/big-sioux/
History The Big Sioux area was home to bands of American Indians. The river provided fish, clams and waterfowl, as well as transportation to the north and south. Trees for fuel and lodges were readily available and drinking water was abundant.
A log house and storm cellar marks the original Ole Bergerson homestead. In 1868, Bergerson helped Ole Iverson, the area’s first settler, build a dugout. The men wintered in the dugout and the following year, Bergerson built his own log home using hand-sewn cottonwood logs. Some of the trees in the park are among the oldest in the state.
Trails The park features over seven miles of trails, including opportunities for archery, biking, cross-country skiing, disc golf and hiking. Acres of native grasses and wildflowers blend into native woods that provide bird watching, nature study and solitude.
The GPS Adventure Trail was constructed at Big Sioux for those who wish to keep up with today’s technology. Trail users use a Global Positioning System unit to find designated coordinate locations.
Canoeing The Big Sioux River offers scenic vistas along its 390-mile course from northeast South Dakota to the Missouri River. This waterway, once used extensively by American Indians and fur traders, now offers an ideal setting for canoeing and kayaking.
The river winds for nearly two miles through the heart of the park where canoe launching facilities are available. The free Big Sioux River Canoe/Kayak Map details the area from Sioux Falls to Fairview and is available at the Park.
Beaver Creek Nature Area - Valley Springs, SD Developed to increase environmental awareness in visitors, Beaver Creek Nature Area highlights natural and historical resources in the vicinity. Pioneers named the creek for the numerous beaver they found along the winding spring-fed stream.

The Brandon Valley Performing Arts Center (PAC), 301 S. Splitrock Blvd. • Box office: (605) 582-8039 The PAC was opened in the fall of 1999 by the Brandon Valley School District. It plays host to over 90 events, concerts and competitions each year. The primary mission of the PAC is to serve the performance needs of the district’s students. Brandon Valley students deserve the best, and this facility certainly provides it. The unique architectural and acoustic design makes everything from first grade choruses to professional performance groups look and sound their best. Along with the performance pluses, the audience is provided with a comfortable and friendly environment. The PAC is a tribute to the vision and perseverance of Brandon Valley’s school board and administration during the years leading up to its construction.

With 38 years of production, the group is known for quality theatre featuring local talent in a variety of genres including comedies, musicals, mysteries, and dramas. Three full-length plays are produced annually, showing in the Spring, Fall, and Christmas seasons.
MCAP offers a children’s summer theatre camp where students in grades 1-6 learn teamwork and communication skills while participating in play rehearsals over the course of a week. They put these skills to practice and at the conclusion of the week in a live performance before family and friends.

Wild Game Feeds TheBrandon Valley Optimist Club’s Wild Game Feed is an annual potluck style dinner featuring numerous dishes of exotic animals (deer, boar, bear, elk, alligator, moose, crawfish...just to name a few!). Funds from this event are earmarked for the Brandon Valley School District School Lunch Program.
Ed Polzine Wild Game Feed Always held the Saturday night before Super Bowl, this wild game feed inches closer to four decades. Funds raised by a group of volunteers support children and adults in the community impacted by cancer and other illnesses.
FEBRUARY Legislative Coffees give residents a chance to meet District 10 & 25 Legislators and ask them questions, as well as express concerns about what will be taking place in Pierre during the current legislative session.
