Position Title: PHP Programmer Non‐exempt, Full‐time Temporary Position (6 months) Advancement Project (AP) is a public policy change organization rooted in the civil rights movement. Position Summary: The PHP Programmer is a 6 month position working as part of the Healthy City team to design, develop, and maintain websites and applications that display complex datasets in an accessible and easy to understand way using GIS mapping technologies and other innovative data visualization solutions. The ideal candidate is committed to Advancement Project’s mission, and is an ambitious, versatile developer who can take ownership of a project and who works well within a team. There is potential for this to turn into a permanent position.

Responsibilities, Duties and Functions: • Design, develop, and maintain robust web applications and services. • Maintain for healthycity.org as well as other projects; data preparation and clean‐up. • Set scope of work and timelines for various technology projects. • Set up and maintain development, test and production environments. • Participate in systems analysis and design efforts regarding user interfaces, definition of process specifications and design of application structures. • Maintain clear documentation of processes and communicate task progress. • Perform code evaluation and make recommendations for adaptation. • Generate application test data as necessary and validate any data conversion requirements for final implementation and production rollout. • Quality assurance testing and usability testing for various project websites.

Qualifications: • 4+ years programming experience required in application development. • High‐level programming/scripting experience (PHP5 tree, JavaScript, XML, CSS). • High‐level SQL programming.

• Strong background in open‐source environments, software, and tools (, Apache, PHP, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc). • Science trained graduate or with equivalent work experience. • Strong documentation, design, coding and testing experience. • Knowledge of API, theme layer, theme hooks, and custom module development. • Proven analytical ability to create/modify application code to support new functionality. • Strong experience with code written by other developers. • Experience with GIS programming and data visualization tools and techniques.

Additional Qualifications: • Genuine passion and enthusiasm for bridging communities, technology, policy, and research to address social inequities. • Strong familiarity with demographic, health and economic datasets highly preferred. • Experience developing or working on mobile applications. • Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work with diverse communities. • Flexibility to adjust and contribute to continually evolving work situation and changing priorities.

Annual Salary: DOE. Includes health, dental and vision benefits. Parking or metro pass is also included.
