110Years Since Mercedes' Dad Bought His First Car In 1897, successful German-born businessman Emil Jellinek bought his first car from genius inventor Gottlieb Daimler. He became an enthusias- tic fan of the automobile, took part in the earliest motor races, and quickly became the largest distributor of Daimler cars. A few months after Herr Daimler's death in 1900, Jellinek persuaded the management of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft to have its chief designer, legendary and visionary engineer Wilhelm Maybach, build a fast, lightweight Emil Jellinek didn't only love Daimler cars; he also and safe car. A joint venture is an association of companies for the purpose of carrying out a joint project. Consequently, the two companies - or more - have the desire to collaborate in order to share their skills, knowledge. In this guide we are going to explain you why companies use joint venture. You will see that this entry mode is used outside of simple skill sharing. It exists three types of joint venture : - The horizontal joint venture : This joint venture regroup companies who has a same activities and similar sector of activity - The vertical joint venture : It’s cooperation between two companies who have a same sector of activities, but who haven’t the same job ( a producteur of partition with recording studio) - The conglomerate joint venture : There isn’t a relation face to a sector between the partner ( a label and provider of internet ) Why companies use Joint Venture ? ● Opportunity to leverage the distinct strengths of both partner organisations ● Cuts investment or funding costs versus developing commercial opportunities in house ● Partner skill set should be complementary, making the value of the JV greater than the sum of its parts, as well as ● providing quick and low cost access to expertise in an area where you are weak ● Reduces downside risk should partnership not deliver the expected/ hoped for returns ● Increased power over the activities and principles guiding the JV's operations and objectives compared to a ● minority interest investment ● Allows a deal to be done when funding might otherwise preclude it, since you can contribute things other than ● cash, such as assets, IP or know-how Some examples : We are going to illustre why companies use joint venture thanks to some concrete examples. -

Businesses and governments all over the world are searching for technological innovations that reduce costs and increase usage of “environmentally friendly” vehicles. China became the largest car producer in 2009 and it is strongly investing in the manufacturing of electric vehicles. This paper examines the incentives provided by Chinese governments (national and local) and the strategies pursued by BYD, the largest Chinese EVs manufacturer. Specifically, our paper helps to show how government support in the form of subsidies combined with effective strategies implemented by BYD helps to explain why this emerging industry has expanded successfully in China. PRESS RELEASE 20190717 GROUPE RENAULT AND JMCG OFFICIALLY ESTABLISH A JOINT VENTURE FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN CHINA • Groupe Renault will increase its share capital by RMB 1 billion to become a major shareholder of JMEV with a 50% stake. BoulogneBillancourt, July 17, 2019 – Groupe Renault and Jiangling Motors Corporation Group (JMCG) announced the official establishment of their joint venture to further promote the development of the EV industry in China, following a first agreement on December 20, 2018. Groupe Renault will increase its share capital by RMB 1 billion (about 128.5 million euros) to become a major shareholder of JMEV with a 50% stake. JMEV has already completed business license registration. This cooperation is part of the overall strategy of JMCG and Groupe Renault. Through this joint venture, Groupe Renault will be able to expand its influence in China’s electric vehicle market, while JMCG will be able to integrate and leverage more resources, which will promote its rapid growth in the future. China is a key market for Groupe Renault. This partnership in electric vehicle business with JMCG will support our growth plan in China and our EV capabilities. BUSINESS SWEDEN | CHINA AUTOMOTIVE IND USTRY STUDY | 2 SUMMARY Economic slowdown and an ongoing trade war with the United States have impacted the Chinese automotive market. In 2018, new vehicle sales declined for the first time in 20 years. Sales totaled 28,08 million units, reflecting a -2.8% y/y. Electric vehicles remain a promising segment, as the government still provides substantial subsidies to manufacturers, while customers are offered incentives and favorable discounts for purchasing. In order to guide the industry, the Chinses government is gradually reducing subsidies. Stricter rules are also set to raise the subsidy threshold, which will force both OEMs and suppliers along the value chain to increasingly convert themselves into hi-tech companies with core competencies. The evolution is driven by solutions addressing the three main issues created by the last decade’s market boom: energy consumption, pollution and traffic congestion. The Chinese government has shifted its attention from total volume to engine mix and is progressively creating incentives to small and low emission vehicles, while supporting investment in new energy vehicles, mainly electric. In this direction, technologies surrounding new energy vehicles such as power cell materials, fuel cell and driving motor will receive strong support and offer more opportunities. In the light weight area, structure optimization is still the primary ways for OEMs the achieve the weight reduction goal. -
