An Invitation to Apply: Tenure Track Assistant Professor College of Nursing Northwest

THE SEARCH Purdue University Northwest (PNW) College of Nursing (https://academics.pnw.edu/nursing/) invites applications and nominations for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, academic year appointment starting August 17, 2020.

This is an opportunity to join an innovative, high performing team of faculty and staff who are building the future of nursing. The College of Nursing is focused on excellence through

1 innovation, applying the best available evidence throughout the curriculum as well as in its teaching approach, and engaging the community for greater impact. The College of Nursing is a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence and is home to the Center for Evidence Based Nursing Practice, a Joanna Briggs Institute Center of Excellence. The College supports faculty to do their best and to be their best. The College offers undergraduate degrees including a traditional BSN, second degree accelerated BSN, and an online RN-BSN. Several MSN options are offered including two advanced practice roles (family nurse practitioner and adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist) and two online options (nursing and nurse executive). The post-master’s DNP program has a focus in translation science. In the fall of 2020, a new state of the art, 68,000 square foot Bioscience Innovations Building will open and be the home of the College of Nursing on the Hammond campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION The Tenure Track Assistant Professor include: • Teaching graduate and undergraduate nursing in classroom and online environments • Conducting scholarly work in field of expertise • Grant writing • Participating in university, professional and community service.

QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate for the Tenure Track Assistant Professor position will have/ demonstrate: Required: • An earned research doctorate in nursing or a related field (master’s degree in nursing required if doctoral degree is in another field) or a clinical doctorate in nursing. • Commitment to contributing to the science of nursing. • If applicable: Dissertation must be successfully defended by the start of the academic year, August 17, 2020. • Proficiency in English, written and spoken, is required.

Preferred: • Excellent classroom teaching experience • Online teaching experience • Expertise/Certification in one of the following areas is desirable: • Family Nurse Practitioner • Adult-Health Nursing

In 2018, Purdue University Northwest broke ground on the $35 million Nils K. Nelson Bioscience Innovation Building on the Hammond campus. When completed, the Building will be a state-of-the-art STEM-centered facility that will be home to the Nursing and Biological Sciences Departments. The 68,000 square foot facility will serve as a hub for quality education and for enhancing the health care field for Northwest Indiana.

The Westville campus is located 37 miles away from the Hammond campus and is situated on 269 acres in rural La Porte County along US Highway 421. This location has three academic buildings, a spacious student services and activity center, and a veterinary emergency facility. The grounds of the Westville campus feature an extensive outdoor and indoor art collection, Shakespeare's Garden, and many outdoor athletic facilities. The Westville campus is known for being a commuter campus, and it also offers a private apartment housing development next door.

The College of Nursing is one of PNW’s marquis colleges. It has been continuously recognized as a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education since 2014. Since 2005, it has been home to the Indiana Center for Evidence Based Nursing Practice, an affiliate center of the Joanna Briggs Institute. Student Profile The student body is ethnically diverse with 33.6 % minority representation and 30.3% in the College of Nursing (CON). The University enrolls increasingly more full-time (66%) students and approximately one third are first-generation students. The university serves the needs of students residing in Indiana (78.5% in-state), Chicago and surrounding communities in Illinois as well as a small population of international students (5.2%).

HAMMOND & WESTVILLE, INDIANA1 Purdue University Northwest’s two campuses are located in Hammond & Westville Indiana. Hammond is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is situated along Lake Michigan and the Little Calumet River. As of 2010, the population was 80,830 making it the most populous city in Lake County. The city of Hammond is accessible by many railroads, highways, and Chicago Midway airport is 25 miles away. The parkland around Wolf Lake and the Horseshoe Hammond riverboat casino are two large attractions for Hammond. Franciscan Health Hammond, Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad, Harbor Casino, and Unilever are some of the largest companies in Hammond.

Westville is located in New Durham Township, in LaPorte County, Indiana. Located 37 miles from Hammond, this rural city has a population 5,853. Westville is located in a part of Indiana referred to by locals as The Region. Westville is located 15 minutes from Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes National Park.
