  • NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS HEAD COACH BILL BELICHICK PRESS CONFERENCE January 12, 2007
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS HEAD COACH BILL BELICHICK PRESS CONFERENCE January 12, 2007 BB: We’re kind of winding it down here. This is a tough day to finish up with San Diego, with their red area offense. They’re, by far and away, the best team in the league in the red area. They do it all pretty good. They almost never get stopped down there. We're going to have our hands full with that one. We’re winding it down. We'll leave after practice here and get everything sown up here this afternoon and get out to San Diego. Q: Any adjustments to your routine because of the early trip? BB: No. We'll have a normal Friday today, and then, instead of going home, we’ll just get on the plane. Tomorrow will be a normal Saturday. It will be about as much of a normal road trip as we could make it, other than traveling Saturday afternoon. We'll just be there tomorrow. Q: Was there a thinking to leaving earlier? Is it just to get acclimated because it's a long trip? BB: Well, it's a one o'clock game on Sunday. If it were a night game, maybe we would do it differently. I don't think we want to travel all day there Saturday and then get up early and play the next day. Q: Will you have use of a facility out there? BB: We might go to the stadium. We'll talk about that and see what it looks like out there.

Whether it’s rushing the ball or catching a pass out of the backfield, more running backs are finding a way to make an impact. “Having a running back that can play every down makes it difficult to distinguish when a team is going to run the ball or pass the ball,” says St. Louis Rams running back MARSHALL FAULK, who is working as an analyst for NFL Network as he rehabs an injury. These versatile running backs are an offensive coordinator’s dream and a defensive coordinator’s nightmare. “Running backs are the hardest thing to account for in the passing game,” says Detroit Lions offensive coordinator MIKE MARTZ, who coached Faulk and STEVEN JACKSON (fifth in the NFL with 884 scrimmage yards) in St. Louis and currently designs plays for KEVIN JONES (third in the league among running backs with 37 receptions). “Once you get a back with speed matched up with linebackers and safeties, usually that’s a mismatch.” In San Francisco, where FRANK GORE is one of four NFL running backs to lead his team in rushing and hold at least a share of the club lead in receptions (Minnesota’s CHESTER TAYLOR, San Diego’s LA DAINIAN TOMLINSON, Philadelphia’s BRIAN WESTRBOOK), 49ers offensive coordinator NORV TURNER agrees.

Wortham Theater Center Houston, Texas February 4, 2017 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2017 Morten Andersen (on what it was like getting the knock at the door, and the fact that it’s been a long time since a kicker was inducted into the Hall of Fame) “Twenty-five years, I believe. I asked my wife, while we we’re in the room with some friends, ‘That’s an awful loud knock for room service. Is this a club sandwich?’ Dave (Baker), you didn’t have a club sandwich, but it was sure a nice alternative. It was very emotional – crying L.T. (LaDainian Tomlinson), I agree. We shed a few tears, and I’m tremendously humbled and excited to be in this class. Congratulations to everyone, it’s pretty mind blowing right now, I’m kind of floating, if you don’t mind.” (on what he knew about football coming from Denmark, and what it means for the country) “It’s going to be huge, there’s no question. I think the Crown Prince texted me (joking). I don’t know, maybe not. That would be kind of cool. I didn’t know anything about football when I came in 1977 and barely spoke the language. It happened very fast, watched the jamboree games in the metal bleachers, watched the quarterback-center exchange and said I don’t want to be that guy, or that guy. You have a big guy in tight pants bending over and then you have a small guy in equally tight pants going up behind him and I said, ‘No.

  • The Pioneers
Gridiron Glory: Footballs Greatest Legends and Moments is the most extensive and comprehensive exhibit featuring America’smost popular sport ever to tour. Many of the objects included in the exhibition have never been outside the walls of their home, the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The artifacts are representative of the great moments, great players and coaches and milestone moments of the sport over the last 100-plus years. Below is a partial list of the rare and historically significant artifacts that will be presented in Gridiron Glory: Footballs Greatest Legends and Moments. The Pioneers This section looks at the early days of the sport when a very unorganized, rough and tumble game was played in empty lots and other makeshift venues. It captures the moment when the NFL was born, when the rules of the game were created anew on every field and when one player of staggering ability, Red Grange, “barnstormed” across America to drum up fan support for a sport in its infancy. Artifacts featured include: 1892 Allegany Athletic Association accounting ledger – Pro Football’sBirth Certificate This accounting ledger sheet from the 1892 Allegheny Athletic Association documents football’s first case of professionalism. “Pro Football’sBirth Certificate” has never before been displayed outside the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Jim Thorpe’sCanton bulldogs Sideline Blanket In 1915 the Canton Bulldogs signed Jim Thorpe to a $250 per game contract. Thorpe, the first big-name athlete to play pro football, was an exceptional talent and major gate attraction. His outstanding talent enabled Canton to lay claim to unofficial world championships in 1916, 1917 and 1919.
