Speech Of His Excellency SHRI KUMMANAM RAJASEKHARAN GOVERNOR, MIZORAM On the occasion of Swachhta Abhiyan Campaign Organized by Project Pushpak and ICFAI University At Rajat Auditorium, Project Pushpak, Thuampui, Aizawl On 02nd October, 2018 Page 1 of 4 Brig. Birender Singh, Chief Engineer, Project Pushpak. Lt. Gen. Dr. A.K. Misra, Vice Chancellor ICFAI University. Distinguished Guest and my dear friends. Chibai First of all, I want to congratulate Project Pushpak and ICFAI University, Mizoram for organising a Swachhta Abhiyan campaign here in Aizawl and making me a part of this wonderful initiative towards cleanliness. Today, on the 2nd of October, we are reminded of our father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. We Indians gained freedom under the leadership of Gandhiji, but his dream of a clean India is still unfulfilled till date. He said "Sanitation is more important than independence", which made cleanliness and sanitation an integral part of the Gandhian way of living. His dream was total sanitation for all. This campaign was launched officially by the government of India on 145th birthday anniversary of the great person, Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd of October, 2014. The government of India has aimed to make India a clean India by 2nd of October 2019 (means 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi) through this campaign. The campaign is by far the biggest hygiene campaign in which each and every citizen takes part for making our country clean. These missions are to be "inspired by the spirit of nationalism", it will be credited to the citizens of the whole country. We are well aware that India being a developing country and is plagued with various social issues and I think that cleanliness drive is the best start of eliminating social issues from the society as well as promoting Page 2 of 4 the growth of country with its citizen’s individual growth.

  • The Kerala Election: a Shift to the Left – and a Move to the Right
The Kerala election: A shift to the left – and a move to the right blogs.lse.ac.uk/southasia/2016/05/26/the-kerala-election-a-shift-to-the-left-and-a-move-to-the-right/ 2016-5-26 Last week Kerala’s electoral pendulum swung to once again favour the Left Democratic Front over the Congress-led United Democratic Front. But James Chiriyankandath writes that this year’s contest was unusual in that the BJP emerged as a more credible third force, suggesting the cycle that has developed in the last 60 years is no longer as stable as it looks. This article forms part of a series on the 2016 Legislative Assembly Elections. Click here to read more. In the six decades since the coastal south Indian state was formed and made history by becoming the first anywhere in the world to return a communist government to power through the ballot box in 1957, elections in Kerala have been remarkably consistent. Coalitions led by either the communists or the Congress Party – since 1982 the Left Democratic Front (LDF) or the United Democratic Front (UDF) – have alternated in winning all but one of thirteen elections (the exception was in 1977). The results of the polls on 16 May were no different: the LDF succeeded in ousting the UDF from office, claiming 91 of the 140 state assembly seats to 47 for the UDF. Yet this was an unusual electoral contest with the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, perennial ‘also-rans’ in Kerala but in power at the centre since 2014, gaining a seat for the first time; the remaining seat went to an independent.
