Jacob A. Thye BS/EM 2007 Jake Thye is currently manufacturing engineer lead on a section of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter assembly line at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Fort Worth, Texas, where he has worked since graduation. “I started as a manufacturing engineer on the F-35 program,” said Thye. “Last year, I was promoted to manufacturing engineer office lead on the fuselage station mate joint for mate and final assembly, which is where the forward fuselage and canopy mates with the center fuselage of the aircraft.” Thye’s daily routine includes working with management, shop floor support, engineers, toolmakers, tool designers, industrial engineers, supervisors, planners, facility workers, and mechanics to get the aircraft built. Thye recently completed First Steps Toward Leadership, a 4-month program sponsored by the Lockheed Martin Leadership Association. He received a Continuing Education Credit Certificate from the Professional Development Division of the National Management Association. Thye also received an F-35 Spot Award in March 2009 for solving a quality problem on the F-35. When he’s not building strike fighter jets, Thye is pursuing a master’s degree in manufacturing systems management at Southern Methodist University’s Bobby B.
